DENNIS DEYOUNG Returns With '26 East: Volume 1' in Spring 2020

Categories:
Dennis DeYoung Announces 2020 Tour and New Album Featuring a Duet with Julian Lennon
Chicago, IL - Dennis DeYoung's new album "26 East: Volume 1,” will be released Spring 2020 via Frontiers Records and will feature the duet "The Good Old Days" with Julian Lennon.

DeYoung has previously announced this will be his last album but has added an update.

"This was supposed to be my final album but there were so many songs written that Serafino Perugino, CEO of Frontiers, suggested dividing it into two albums rather than one,” DeYoung states. “So be it. This is Volume 1, which sounds pretentious to me, but the marketing folks wanted you to know there are going to be two of them, so hey kids, there are two of them; this is Volume 1."

It all started when Jim Peterik, a fellow Chicagoan and nearby neighbor, sent a song demo to Dennis.

"If not for Jim Peterik’s encouragement, talent and prodding I would not have recorded this music", said DeYoung. "He once told me that the world needed my music; to which I replied 'have the world text me for verification.' We collaborated from the get go, happily and seamlessly and at this time we have written 9 songs together of which five will be on Volume 1. Just two Chicago guys doing what they do best, making music and having a laugh.

The collaboration with Julian Lennon came about when DeYoung wrote a verse and chorus of a song with Lennon in mind. Lennon heard the demo and said he would be honored to participate. Lennon's vocals were recorded in October at Mission Sound in Brooklyn, NY.

DeYoung shares, "The moment we sang together in the studio it felt magical. I wrote the song specifically for our two voices. I had never met Julian previously but I have been an admirer since Valotte."

The album title "26 East" represents the birthplace of Styx. 26 E 101st Place was the address where DeYoung grew up in Roseland, on the south side of Chicago. Across the street at 39 E 101st Place lived the Panozzo twins, Chuck and John, whom would go on to form Trade Winds in 1962, which a decade later would become the core of Styx. The cover artwork of “26 East” features three locomotives, representing the three original members of Styx leaving the Chicago train yard dreaming of bigger and better things.

In support of the release of “26 East,” DeYoung will tour heavily throughout 2020. To kick-off the release of the album, DeYoung will appear at the House of Blues Chicago on April 3rd, with a live concert and sneak preview of the album. A CD of “26 East” is included with the price of admission. In addition, the album will be played in its entirety on the house PA, followed by a Q&A session with DeYoung and Jim Peterik to discuss the new music. It will be followed by the live performance of The Music of Styx. Attendees can expect to hear a few songs from the new album, also performed live.

DENNIS DeYOUNG Announces The Grand Illusion 40th Anniversary US Album Tour

Categories:

Dennis DeYoung announces a special live tour celebrating the 40th Anniversary of STYX's iconic 1977 album release, THE GRAND ILLUSION. DeYoung will reflect back on more than 4 decades of musical excellence throughout the performance. This includes performing the entire Grand Illusion album plus all the greatest hits written and sung by DeYoung including - “Come Sail Away,” “Babe,” “Mr. Roboto,” “The Best Of Times,” and “Lady.” Other hit songs attendees may expect include fan favorites "Renegade," "Blue Collar Man," "Suite Madame Blue" and more.

The excitement of the Grand Illusion 40th Anniversary Tour is the magic of DeYoung's instantly recognizable voice bringing the classic STYX catalog to the live stage. For fans that weren't witness to the original album tour, DeYoung shares, "The Grand Illusion album was STYX’s greatest achievement, and this year my band and I will bring its sound and spirit to life nightly on concert stages across America."

The Grand Illusion was STYX's seventh studio album, but historically serves as the album that would launch the band to super stardom with DeYoung's song "Come Sail Away" reaching number 8 on Billboard's Top 100 in 1977. The song pushed album sales to more than 3 million copies and gave STYX a multi-platinum album certification bringing STYX critical commercial success. The album remains a staple on classic rock radio stations worldwide.

Of the Grand Illusion album, DeYoung adds "I formulated the theme behind the Grand Illusion album after observing how American culture creates illusions through advertising and entertainment to convince us that our lives our lacking, in order to sell products. I told the audience that we were part of the Illusion and warned them not to be “fooled by the radio,” which was us, and that in the end, despite the illusions and hype created, that “deep inside we’re all the same."

2018 offers opportunities for fans to see Dennis DeYoung and his band at a hometown venue. New dates are being added and ticket sales are available through DeYoung’s official website. For a detailed list of venues and performance dates, visit http://www.dennisdeyoung.com/tour.

Dennis De Young heads to the Westcoast for a rare live appearance and while he was there, he filmed this event for a 2CD/DVD release. It’s raining live releases right now, and Dennis is the cream of the crop.
Singing the hits of Styx with a dynamic 6 piece band accompanying him, Dennis happily plays away on his famous piano, those iconic lead vocals pure ear candy.

The songs are of course, long since proven as classics, with the audience familiar with every word, every line.
Highlights? Well, all of it of course.  Dennis sounds amazing; his backing band is fabulous and the material is unquestionable.

It could be seen as a little unusual for the Tommy Shaw sung classics to be included in the set, featuring August Zadra on lead vocals for those. But I guess when presenting an evening of ‘The Music Of Styx’, you include all of Styx. I think that’s a credit to DeYoung’s overview of the legacy of the band. He's not just delivering the songs he wrote and sung himself.

In the end, this is a highly enjoyable romp through the best of Styx over an hour or two, with flawless performances and the biting wit of DeYoung in-between those songs. The guy really could try a career in stand-up.

Beautifully recorded and filmed, this is a very high quality live release that I recommend to all.
