Skid Row make the smartest decision they have in decades, by adding the world’s best frontman/rock vocalist in Erik Gronwall, who’s natural energy channels the best of the band’s early years. It seems to have worked, with the band more discussed in recent months than I have seen since the 90s.

‘The Gang’s All Here’ is the band’s most natural sounding record and most energetic since the masterpiece that was ‘Slave To The Grind’, recapturing the vibe of their debut along the way.

And it seems the decision to return to their roots was an organic one, as the album was written before Erik’s arrival, but as if fortune was told, it is the perfect beast for Erik to do his thing with and sounds like a completely natural partnership.

The album rocks from start to finish, without repeating itself, with only the excellent 7-minute epic October’s Song slowing the mood down.

The production is sharp and chunky, everything I love about a great hard rock record and Erik just nails the vocals and the whole continuation of the Skid Row legacy.

Fan reaction has already been overwhelmingly positive so if you’re still on the fence, get off it!

I can already imagine how great the next album will sound with Erik’s full involvement. This album has breathed new life into a classic hard rock band.

H.E.A.T - one of the very best bands in the world are back in action after a well deserved break. I knew this album was going to be a left turn, as just after the release of Tearing Down The Walls, Jona Tee commented to me that the band would ‘do something a little different’ next time.
Into The Great Unknown is that ‘next time’ and yes, it is different. But it’s also a bloody fantastic slice of modern melodic rock.
The band has delivered two amazing albums in one style, another two  classics (if you ask me) with Erik Gronwall fronting the band and now it’s on to a new phase with guitarist Dave Dalone coming back to replace Eric Rivers.

Into The Great Unknown is different on a couple of fronts. It freely uses production effects and a modern production style, plus it also dares to innovate on the songwriting side.
There’s more keyboards on this album than any of the 4 previous, with Jona using a lot of different tricks throughout the album.

The album is also laid out in the sometimes confronting rocker/mellow/rocker/mellow sequence.
Some fans are going to over-react to the updated sound here. Sometimes I think reading many comments can inadvertently effect your own opinion. I’ve read many – some love this, some love parts of the album, others are ranking it the weakest of the band’s output thus far.

But realistically it is none of the above. Those type of comments have followed each of the band’s releases. Why? Because they are that good! They evoke passion among their fans that any band would envy and I don’t know many bands out there today that can boast 5 albums of the quality that H.E.A.T has delivered.

What Into The Great Unknown is for H.E.A.T is just another stunning slice of music that challenges the listener and breaks new commercial ground for a band that hasn’t stood still from Day 1.
If you want your favourites to continually repeat the formula, you know where you can find those types of artists.

Into The Great Unknown should be used as a benchmark in modern melodic rock production. And the songwriting is every bit as good to match. You may not pick these songs as favourites, but there’s no denying the quality. The album has been on high rotation with me for well over 2 months now. And personally speaking, it may not equal the playback longevity of Address The Nation and Tearing Down The Walls, but it isn’t far off and I’m not close to being tired of it yet.
So many layers of vocals, instrumentation and a lot of orchestration behind the main sounds.

The rockers – Bastard Of Society and Shit City are in your face, high octane, adrenaline filled stadium blasters, while Best of The Broken builds like a beast, breaking into a classic Heat chorus.
The keyboard infused Blind Leads The Blind has to be one of the band’s best flat out heavy rockers, while the album closes with the double dose of intelligent songwriting with Do You Want It, featuring some falsetto vocals that just sound so fitting, yet original and the epic 7 minute classic Heat rocker Into The Great Unknown. Fabulous harmonies and performances.

The mellow/melodic tracks – Redefined is magnificent. Think Mr. Big’s Take Cover – one of my favourite songs – this has the same quality and passion and the vocals are quite something.
Time On Our Side made waves for being the first single and possibly the most outside the box track on the album. I would not have released this as the album’s first marker. But it is stunning nevertheless. The chorus is monstrous and it’s so cool to hear a “ballad” rock along as the pace this does.
Eye Of The Storm is simply one of the best ballads I’ve heard in a decade. It’s just beyond huge. And the impassioned We Rule is the band’s ode to Queen’s Show Must Go On meets We Are The Champions – and its every bit as big. Erik Gronwall is the vocalist of the decade.

The Japanese bonus track Free Your Inner Miley is a balls to the wall old-school double time hard rocker with a huge groove and another memorable hook and harmony. Well worth tracking down. The band recorded 14 tracks for this album overall, so there’s 3 more to come at some point.

I wanted to keep this brief, but when an album this big and important comes along, it’s vital to capture all necessary thoughts. So in summary – freeking amazing production (and those streaming or MP3-ing are missing out BIG time). Musically it is bold, brave and takes necessary risks to broaden the fanbase and remain fresh. It’s simply another amazing piece of art that if released under a new band name would be hailed as the “next Heat”!

Very proud of the guys and everyone in the Heat camp. This is wonderful.

"What can you say about H.E.A.T? If you don't like these energetic Swedes you must be dead inside, as this year they've shown the UK crowd how to be the most complete band on the planet." - Classic Rock Magazine

Friday 22nd September 2017 sees the UK release of the long awaited new studio album "Into The Great Unknown" from the celebrated Swedish rock band H.E.A.T viaearMUSIC.

"Into The Great Unknown" is the follow-up to 2014’s critically acclaimed "Tearing Down The Walls".  2012’s successful "Address The Nation" album was praised worldwide as one of the best albums of the year, and consolidated the H.E.A.T’s growing reputation as the new leading band in hard edged melodic rock.

In 2009, H.E.A.T had a huge hit in Scandinavia with the song "1000 Miles". Since then, they’ve toured all over the world, blowing audiences away with their outstanding live concerts.

In a time when artists like Foreigner, Journey and Whitesnake are enjoying a resurgence, teenagers are re-discovering the melodic approach to hard rock. The kids are suddenly wearing their classic rock band logos on t-shirts. H.E.A.T is the beacon of light that many say will carry this tradition into the future. They’re young, ambitious and full of energy and ideas.
H.E.A.T don’t hide their love for their classic rock heroes, but don’t try to copy it, either. They just do it and they want to be the best at it. And they are one of the best - drawing both young and old to their mesmerising, freshly sounding, energetic classic rock and bombastic melodies.

"Into The Great Unknown" is a rock and roll journey into the great unknown. The album delivers everything H.E.A.T is loved for - frontman Erik Grönwall’s incredible vocal talent and the band’s traditional approach to melodic rock.
The result is a set of high-quality tracks that bend the genre’s boundaries and take it to new heights. H.E.A.T’s fifth album incorporates some of classic rock’s most renowned features and taking them into another dimension.  H.E.A.T have always had a grasp for great melodies.  "Eye Of The Storm", "Redefined", Time On Our Side" and "Do You Want It?" embody catchy melodies and fresh ideas, all of which takes the band’s talent to the next level.
"During the making of this album, I think we all felt a little bit like astronauts going off to space for the first time," says guitarist Dave Dalone (aka Sky Davis). "We set out on a journey not knowing what we would come back with, or if we'd even make it back. Somewhere along the way, the pieces began to fall into place. There's just no point in doing the same album over and over again just because it works. When it all comes down to it, you want to make the songs shine to their full potential. If that includes bending the rules of the genre or crossing paths into unknown territory, so be it."

"The title "Into The Great Unknown" suits the album for many reasons," says drummer Crash. "The plan, to focus entirely on the song writing and to not do a live show until the new album is out, was a new thing for us.  We had never done anything like it, how do you 'not' play live for two years?  We had been doing live shows since we were kids.  Another leap into the great unknown is the music itself, with no limits and elements never before seen in H.E.A.T. Eric Rivers disappeared into the great unknown and former guitarist Dave Dalone (aka Sky Davis) came back from it. The album cover is once again created by Russian artist Vitaly S. Alexius, and is inspired by the mystical space, the greatest unknown known to man."

Stockholm Rocks 2016 - July Event To Feature REACH, JOE LYNN TURNER, DYNAZTY

Categories:
Tour News

Stockholm Rocks again - new event already in July 2016 - Friday 22 and Saturday 23;

With four Stockholm Rocks events completed and the steady growth of interest we have decided to host a 5th edition in the middle of summer ' Stockholm Rocks Summerfest on July 22nd-23rd. We are picking up where V'sby Rocks unfortunately had to call it a day. So, the artists are in the same vein, melodic rock, but maybe a bit more towards the heavier side. We also would like to promote young bands who are bringing the tradition into the future, but of course also celebrate some household great musicians who has been making ear candy for the last 30-or-so years. We are proud to present:

Joe Lynn Turner, legendary singer with a past in Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and Deep Purple but not to miss his own material ' a new album was released in May ' check out Sunstorm

Santa Cruz, four young Finnish rockers with attitude and loads of guitar. They recently toured UK and now they have been in the US since April. A new single was released the other day

Erik Gronwall, the voice of H.E.A.T, will be making a special appearance and playing an acoustic gig together with band colleague Jonah T. The set will consist of H.E.A.T material and his rock favourites

Iron Savior, German power metallers who has been giving us a good headbanging with 10 albums for the last 20 years. Loads of guitar and a steady beat ' the latest album Titancraft is reaching the stores this week

Dynazty, introduced to the Swedish audience at a local Eurovision event making a metal version of a winner. With their 5th album they have moved on and bring us melodic metal ' Titanic Mass

Reach, had already getting attention with making a rock cover of Avicii's hit 'Wake me up'. Then Ludvig Turner brought rock into the Swedish Idol contest, recorded their debut album and played 30 gigs in UK and throughout Europe last year. With hooks from the 80's mixed with youthful energy they want to 'Reach out to Rock' even further now

Hysterica, four young ladies who put a lot of effort into making their shows a musical and visual experience. Two albums and an EP full of heavy metal they will kick some ass - and with the latest single 'Ease my mind' they also show a soft side ' but only a little

MELODICROCKFEST Australia; Mitch Malloy Pulls Out

Release Year:
2015
Categories:
Tour News

It is with great regret that I must announce the withdrawal of MITCH MALLOY from MelodicRock Fest Australia.

Mitch was really looking forward to making his Australian debut with his backing band Kaato, but an increasingly packed production schedule in Nashville and ongoing recording of a new solo album ahead of Mitch’s UK tour have forced him to have to pull out of this event.

Mitch sends his apologies to Aussie fans.

In light of the short time frame between now and the event, an international guest is unlikely to be able to replace Mitch, rather each band on the day will play longer sets. I know Paul Laine’s happy to get more time and BB Steal will be taking as much time as they like to run through their classic debut and some Boss tracks.

Further information on an addition to the Friday lineup (in place of Kaato) will be announced shortly.

MelodicRock Fest takes place May 13/14, 2016 at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow, St. Kilda.

Full details and tickets available at: www.melodicrockfest.com

After 4 successful events in the USA, Australian website and record label MelodicRock.com is bringing the popular MelodicRockFest event home.
MelodicRockFest Australia will make its local debut in Melbourne on May 13 and 14, 2016 at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow in St. Kilda.

International Headline acts Eclipse (Sweden) and Paul Laine (Canada)(ex-Danger Danger) will be joined by Australia’s brightest rock talent, including BB Steal, Black Majesty, Vanishing Point and The Radio Sun.

For nearly 20 years now, MelodicRock.com has been covering the movements of the best melodic and hard rock acts from all over the world. From chart topping stadium fillers to independent studio projects, the site covers all the legends of the rock world, while placing a strong emphasis on new and upcoming artists plus the labels and people behind them.

MelodicRockFest takes that same attitude and brings it into a live setting. Mirroring the USA event's vision, MelodicRockFest Australia will exclusively showcase some of the best international melodic rock acts, some making their Australian debut, with support from some of the best local rock acts rounding out the line-up.

This is a festival demanded by the loyal local fans. It’s a one of a kind. It’s small, it’s intimate and it’s for those that recall the glory days of Adult Orientated Rock.

Appearing at MelodicRockFest is:

Saturday May 14 (Headline Day)

ECLIPSE (Sweden)
Eclipse are one of Sweden’s premiere melodic hard rock acts. They boast a strong following across all of Europe and are sought after session musicians when not touring. In 2015 the band released their critically acclaimed 5th studio album ‘Armageddonize’ and just recently were invited to participate in the Swedish heats for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
This will be the band’s first trip down under and they plan on making the most of it by delivering a blistering set that won’t be soon forgotten.

ERIK GRONWALL (Sweden)(Special Guest)
Erik is the energetic frontman for one of Europe’s most in-demand rock bands, H.E.A.T. The band will be looking to hit Australia next tour, but for now, their popular frontman is making his own way down under to sample some local brews, hang out with fans and join Eclipse on stage for an extended encore that is sure to bring the house down!
Erik will also deliver an exclusive acoustic set for VIP ticket holders on the Friday afternoon.

PAUL LAINE (Canada)
Paul Laine has a career spanning over 25 years, starting off in the Vancouver rock scene, before signing with Elektra Records for his major label debut ‘Stick It In Your Ear’, an album produced by the legendary Bruce Fairbairn. In 1995 Paul joined American rock band Danger Danger as their new frontman for a 4 album run. His other projects include Shugaazer and Andersen Readman Laine, plus his currently touring country rock band Dark Horse.
Paul will perform a true best of set, featuring favourites from Danger Danger as well as all aspects of his career. This will be Paul’s second trip down under.

BB STEAL (Adelaide)
BB Steal are legends of the Australian melodic rock scene. Their major label debut was produced by Def Leppard’s Phil Collen and the band has often been touted as the “new” Def Leppard due to their layered, anthemic sound.

Kilda.

International Headline acts Eclipse (Sweden); Paul Laine (Canada)(ex-Danger Danger) and Mitch Malloy (USA) will be joined by Australia’s brightest rock talent, including BB Steal, Black Majesty, Vanishing Point and newcomers Kaato.

Pausing to soak up the success of their two studio albums with vocalist Erik Gronwall, Sweden’s mega-talented H.E.A.T release a live show from their current tour, captured in London May 2014.
The English have adopted H.E.A.T as their own, interest building via several appearances at Firefest over the years.
So you have a hugely enthusiastic crowd, a band at the absolute peak of their live power, on tour in support of their utterly essential album Tearing Down The Walls, delivering a setlist of non-stop singalong anthems.

Add to that potent mix, one of the most energetic and dynamic frontmen in rock n roll today. Erik Gronwall is revelation. He’s a freak of nature, hitting every note required while commanding the stage and the audience with consummate ease.
This band is shit hot. There’s no doubt. On record, they are brilliant – on stage they are unstoppable. I’ve seen it first hand – there’s no overdubbing or trickery here – this is 67 minutes of melodic rock perfection, delivered with infectious energy and captured beautifully on this live recording.

The set list is mainly garnered from their two albums with Erik, throwing in just two older cuts here (and a third – Beg Beg Beg for Japan).
But that’s fine with me – I love all 4 albums, but it is the two with Erik that truly blow my mind and sum up everything I love about modern era melodic rock.

The setlist featured reignites the songs once again for those of us that have played them 1000 times already, on what is undoubtedly one of the best live albums of recent years.
Absolutely essential.
