Skid Row make the smartest decision they have in decades, by adding the world’s best frontman/rock vocalist in Erik Gronwall, who’s natural energy channels the best of the band’s early years. It seems to have worked, with the band more discussed in recent months than I have seen since the 90s.

‘The Gang’s All Here’ is the band’s most natural sounding record and most energetic since the masterpiece that was ‘Slave To The Grind’, recapturing the vibe of their debut along the way.

And it seems the decision to return to their roots was an organic one, as the album was written before Erik’s arrival, but as if fortune was told, it is the perfect beast for Erik to do his thing with and sounds like a completely natural partnership.

The album rocks from start to finish, without repeating itself, with only the excellent 7-minute epic October’s Song slowing the mood down.

The production is sharp and chunky, everything I love about a great hard rock record and Erik just nails the vocals and the whole continuation of the Skid Row legacy.

Fan reaction has already been overwhelmingly positive so if you’re still on the fence, get off it!

I can already imagine how great the next album will sound with Erik’s full involvement. This album has breathed new life into a classic hard rock band.

SKID ROW Sign Global Deal With Australia's Golden Robot Records

New Music To Be Released Late 2019

The world’s fastest growing independent rock label, Golden Robot Records, continues it’s upward trajectory into 2019. Starting the year off with a bang, the label recently welcomed guitar icons John Sykes and Gilby Clarke to the family as well as Alt Rockers, Trope, and is now thrilled to announce their latest signing!

Golden Robot Records is pleased to welcome hard rock legends Skid Row to their already impressive roster of artists!  The band recently signed a worldwide deal with Golden Robot Records, which will see their long anticipated forthcoming new album and first with new frontman ZP Theart released later this year.

'We are beyond excited to announce that we have signed with Golden Robot Records. The label is the perfect balance between old-school way of thinking with digital age sensibilities. We can think of no better company to release our third chapter of United World Rebellion and our first record with ZP” says Skid Row bassist, Rachel Bolan.

'We are honoured to welcome Skid Row to the GRR family they have always remained true to their fans with authenticity and passion. We are more than excited to be part of their next chapter and journey with a brand new album!' Mark Alexander-Erber, Golden Robot Entertainment Group Founder and President.

Skid Row burst onto the scene with their iconic self titled debut album in 1988. Fuelled with enough punk and metal attitude to take down any band on the West Coast but enough melody to battle them for airplay dominance.  Top Ten singles, Gold and Platinum sales in too many countries to count and a #1 album on the Billboard chart! They ruled the world for the next 8 years until an ill advised South American tour in 1996 brought the party to an end. The band was finished, but the core camaraderie never died.

In 2000 Skid Row returned to the big stage. Opening for Kiss, they were reinvigorated. Supercharged underdogs who needed to come out fighting to prove themselves once more. With a new frontman the renewed Skid Row played hundreds of shows, with every night being a hard fought battle to win new fans and convince the old ones they still had it. Two albums and two EP's later, the war was won, Skid Row have reestablished their position as one of rocks finest acts with authenticity and the fact they have stayed totally true to themselves and their fans.

With the current musical climate the way it is, Skid Row will continue down the EP path. “The idea really appealed to me,” says Bolan, “especially with the constantly changing musical climate.  I like the idea of a steady flow of new music, as opposed to releasing a full-length album then riding it for the next two years.

Armed with powerhouse vocalist ZP Theart, Skid Row in 2019 is as potent as ever. The twin guitar attack of Dave ’Snake Sabo and Scotti Hill is as legendary as any other classic duo and they are cemented in place by the massive driving force of Rachel Bolan on bass and Rob Hammersmith at the back on drums.

The band are currently in the studio recording the third in their United World Rebellion EP series and it will be released via Golden Robot Records in late 2019.

Skid Row will be playing in Europe throughout June and July appearing on festivals including Bang Your Head and Rockhard in Germany, Download UK, Norway RockSweden Rock and more!

Current FOUR BY FATE and original SKID ROW drummer ROB AFFUSO joins Mitch for episode 227 of One On One With Mitch Lafon.

LINK TO EPISODE: http://www.spreaker.com/user/talkingmetal/1on1-mitch-lafon-227-rob-affuso-former-s

In the show's only interview, drummer Rob Affuso discusses his great new band FOUR BY FATE and their new album Relentless as well as Soulsystem Orchestra, touring with Guns N' Roses, walking away from the music business, Skid Row and the inevitable reunion question, Ozone Monday and so much more.

Quotes from the interview:

(time 3.37): "I had really taken myself out of rock n' roll on purpose for awhile."

On joining Four By Fate (time 3.42): "This feels right. I spoke with John [Regan] and Tod [Howarth] and said, 'Look I just want to have some fun and let's make great music.' That's what they wanted to do and it felt like a love-fest right from the beginning."

Subhuman Race (time 6.18): "We all felt that it was a good rock n' roll album in that niche."

Being disillusioned with the music business (time 7.21): "As much as we as musicians get in the limelight; we have all this fame and we think we have this power and control of things and actually we don't. I really felt like we truly are marionettes and the business does control us."

Skid Row (time 7.51): '"Our slogan was five fingers make a fist. That was us and we were really close for many many years and things just started falling apart."

Was Ozone Monday a side project? (time 14.00): "No, this was the new Skid Row."

(time 17.02): "I dropped off and the music business forgot about me which I have to say also sort of hurt, but it was partly my own doing. I wasn't looking to be found."

Four By Fate (time 19.28): "Everybody knows what this is; it's a good rock band and some good music. There's no pulling punches here. Let's just have fun and check the ego at the door."

Can the original Skid Row guys ever 'be friends' (time 20.18): "I am friendly with all four others guys. I've worked hard at it. I spent a third of my life with these guys and I felt that I shared an immeasurable amounts of things with them. They will always be very very dear and important to me."

Reunion? (time 21.30): "I'd never say never... I would certainly love to see it, but we'll see what happens."

SKID ROW - Solinger Departs, TONY HARNELL Announced As New Voice

SKID ROW has moved quickly to replace vocalist JOHNNY SOLINGER, who announced his departure from the band earlier today. To counter those innevitable "Sebastian Bach reunion" headlines, the band was quick to surprise everyone with the announcement that former TNT legend TONY HARNELL was to join the band.

Apparently the guys have recorded one song already and will work on the third and final part of their EP trilogy before embarking on an extensive tour.
Here's a round up of what everyone has had to say today:

Official Press Release:

New York, NY - After 14 years of touring and 4 releases, SKID ROW and singer Johnny Solinger have parted ways.
Founding member Snake Sabo said, “We had a lot of great times together and created a lot of great music. We wish him nothing but the best.”
“Sometimes things just end. People go in different directions and grow apart and you have to make a decision. He will always be our brother”
adds co-founder Rachel Bolan.

The vacancy for front man has been filled by powerhouse vocalist Tony Harnell. This news comes hot of the heels of his departure from Oslo based band, TNT.“Tony’s experience, power and undeniable range made our decision an easy one” commented guitarist Scotti Hill. Drummer Rob Hammersmith added, “I believe this will be a great year for SKID ROW. I’m looking forward for things to come.”

When asked about joining forces with SKID ROW Harnell said, "I'm so excited and honored to be a part of such a great band with an amazing legacy and legions of faithful fans! The guys and I have known each other for many years and this is such a natural fit. I look forward to getting out there and playing live together and being a part of making new music and creating our future. It's time to rock!"

The band will head into the studio to record the third chapter of the United World Rebellion trilogy in early summer. They will also hit the road for another world tour in support.

Decibel Geek - Michael Wagener on SKID ROW

Producer Michael Wagener Looks Back on Slave to the Grind (AUDO)
Famed rock/metal producer Michael Wagener appears on the latest episode of the Decibel Geek podcast to reflect on his experience producing Skid Row’s ‘Slave to the Grind’ for their Albums Unleashed series.

Slave to the Grind, recorded at New River Studios in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Scream Studios in Studio City, CA, made history on June 11, 1991 when it became the first heavy metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 during the Soundscan era. In this discussion, Wagener details the process of making the album including pre-production that took place in New Jersey, where things got off to a promising start:

“Before we went to Florida, we went into a fairly big studio in Jersey and pretty much recorded the whole record. We made a good demo so to speak. The funny thing is, the song ‘Slave to the Grind’ is from that session. It was recorded and mixed in an hour; and that’s what you’re hearing on the record. It was not even remixed. One hour, it was recorded. Everything is live on there.”

The band then headed to Florida to find a suitable studio to record the album. In this conversation, Wagener describes some of the excess that went on while the band was in the Sunshine State:

“That trip is unforgettable man. It was just crazy. We hung out with Saigon Kick and everybody got extremely drunk. It was a cool weekend. It was very quiet in the limo on the way back to the airport. Heads down, you know? I remember one of the guys puking out the window of the limo. And, then, I see the car behind us putting on the wipers (laughs). It’s rock and roll, man.”

Notable of the album, Slave to the Grind presents a heavier, darker tone in music and in lyrics. In this hour-plus audio discussion, Michael Wagener details the process behind that decision and the effect it had on sales:

“That was the plan. Every band at the time would say ‘Oh our next album is way heavier’ but we did it. We followed that route. Let’s stick to being Skid Row but let’s make it a little tougher, a little harder. We still had the ballads on there. They were maybe not quite as sappy as on the first record but it also didn’t sell as many copies as the first record because the housewives that like the ballads, they’re buying the records, but it’s still an amazing album.”

While the early 90’s were a period of great success for Skid Row, as many know, the ensuing years provided struggle professionally and personally as a split formed in the band with vocalist, Sebastian Bach, being fired in late 1996. Asked about the eventual animosity that would lead to the split, Wagener offers:

“Young kids becoming extremely famous; that goes to your head. All of a sudden you’re invincible and stuff just happens. And if they think they’re invincible, they do things that might not really work in the end. I think some of that was going on. It wasn’t really good for the band; some of the stuff that was said about record companies, executives, and stuff like that. And then Snake and Rachel had to make up for it and go play golf with the guys y’know? And it got to the point that it got so out of hand that they said ‘You know what? Forget it’ It’s not worth it anymore and all that anger and all that animosity and stuff that we have to deal with; it’s not worth it.’ I talked to Rachel 3 or 4 years later (because I did more records with them) and I said ‘Is it ever gonna happen again?’ and he said ‘No. As long as I have a slice of bread on my table, no.’ I think we could have one at least 2 more massive albums with Skid Row but to them their sanity was more important.”
