Phil Collen Describes New DEF LEPPARD Album As Best In 20 Years

DEF LEPPARD guitarist PHIL COLLEN has been interviewed by Billboard about his new solo project DELTA DEEP. The article also gives readers an exclusive stream of the track 'Mistreated' as sung by JOE ELLIOTT.

To close the article, Phil talks about the new Def Leppard album:

"It's really diverse," Collen says of the follow-up to 2008's Songs From the Sparkle Lounge"I honestly think it's the best thing we've done probably in about 20 years. We went in to do a single or an EP and we came out with 12 songs. There was absolutely no pressure. There was no record company executive. There was no record label. We did it for ourselves, and the songs range from flat-out hard rock, almost punky on some of the stuff, to classic Leppard, and there's some other tracks that sound like they'd be on top 40 radio -- just the massive choir of vocals and melodies and all this stuff going on. We treated each song as a different project and did it over a year and a half, which really did help it. I think people are going to like it a lot."

DEF LEPPARD Upcoming Album Featuring All Members On Vocals

It is being reported that the upcoming (most likely self-titled) Def Leppard release will feature all members on lead vocals. BUT JUST ON ONE TRACK apparently.

Vivian Campbell has already gone on the record stating he feels it is the best album recorded by the band since his arrival in 1992, but a new interview indicated all members would have a turn on lead vocals for the "diverse and experimental" new album.

In another recent interview, Joe Elliott is quoted as stating that while all will sing, it will only be on a verse or chorus or such, not on an entire song.

The album is expected out before the end of the year.

JOE ELLIOTT Talks DEF LEPPARD New Album with Billboard

Artist:
Friday, February 13, 2015
Categories:
News Feed

DEF LEPPARD frontman JOE ELLIOTT has discussed the and's just announced 2015 tour with Billboard, but also touched on the new album due this year.

Elliott says there are 15 songs "on the go" for the set, which he considers "remarkably strong" and predicts will sound both familiar and fresh when it's finally out. "It's very varied," Elliott says. "It sounds like Def Leppard, but it sounds like Def Leppard stretching their wings a little bit. There are a couple of songs tied to our DNA, instantly recognizable as us, and some of the stuff that's not so much like that and represents who we are now, a band that's in their early- to mid-50s, the kind of music they should be making without it sounding old and farty. We're not trying to write 24-hour party songs at our age; that would be silly. "The good thing," he adds, "is we're not tied down. Like, when you say AC/DC, you kinda know what you're gonna get. We're more in the Queen ballpark where you can have a slow thing and you can have a full-on rock song on the same record and they go side-by-side. That's where we're coming from on a lot of this stuff."
Elliott says the group thought about getting the album out during the spring, but it's likely to be later because of what he calls "an unprecedented amount of offers from various different people to release this record, which we weren't expecting and has changed the whole dynamic of how we want to put this record out." Elliott says Def Leppard is still "wedding through" the offers but is confidently the album will be out "absolutely this year."
"The important thing is we make a good record," he says. "I don't think people are queuing around the block to buy a Def Leppard release right now; if they're doing it for anybody at all it'd be Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. But for us it's really important that we keep the high quality we've always tried to deliver and we don't let ourselves down. We're never gonna be the kind of band that goes, 'Well, it doesn't matter, nobody buys records anymore so let's jsut piss one out in a month.' That's not our style. It never will be."

DEF LEPPARD Among 19 New Acts Announced For SRF 2015

Another 19 acts confirmed for the Sweden Rock Festival!

We at the Sweden Rock Festival are happy to announce another 19 acts that have been confirmed for next year's Sweden Rock Festival, which will take place in Solvesborg in southern Sweden June 3rd to 6th.

Def Leppard are returning to Sweden Rock after seven years, and this time their setlist will be completely focused on their best known tracks. And considering that these Brits are one of the best-selling hard rock bands of all time, there are plenty of hits to choose from.

Five Finger Death Punch made a big impression on the main stage audience at Sweden Rock 2013 and have been one of the most requested acts since then. Now they will be back for what will be their only Swedish show next summer.

Meshuggah are making their long overdue Sweden Rock debut, Opeth will play their only Swedish concert next summer at Sweden Rock, Airbourne and Manfred Mann's Earth Band are making much anticipated comebacks and Exodus will arrive with legendary vocalist Steve Souza back by the microphone. Evergrey will be playing twice - an electric show on the Wednesday and an aoustic set two days later.

Jon English got plenty of attention and acknowledgement when his last Sweden Rock appearance was broadcast on national Swedish radio. This summer he returns for a more intimate performance at a smaller stage. Kaipa was one of the leading Swedish progressive acts in the 70's - for Sweden Rock, their classic line-up is reforming to play the group's early material under the name Kaipa Da Capo. The Swiss band Samael will be performing their classic black/industrial metal hybrid "Ceremony of Opposites" in its entirety.

Also added to the festival line-up are Lillasyster, Mad Max, Tony Carey, Avatar, Electric Mary, Hazy/Dizzy andThe Order Of Israfel.

In October, it was announced that, among several others, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, Toto, Backyard Babies,HammerFall, D-A-D and Dark Tranquillity will be performing at next year's Sweden Rock Festival.

For the full list of confirmed acts and biographies on all of them, please visit www.swedenrock.com. Another 50 acts will be announced during this winter.
