STYX AXS-TV SPECIAL PREMIERES MARCH 15; SUPPORTING DEF LEPPARD ON MASSIVE SUMMER TOUR; IN-PROGRESS HEADLINING TOUR CONTINUES

February 24, 2015 ' It's been over two years since a full STYX concert was broadcast on national TV ('Styx:  The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Live' DVD, which aired on VH1 Classic and the Palladia HD channel).  Now comes time for a brand new live event that's set to premiere on AXS TV on Sunday, March 15 at 8pm Eastern Time/5pm Pacific Time.

The band's show was filmed at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV in front of a sold-out, adoring audience during last year's 'The Soundtrack of Summer' tour.  STYX performed many of their greatest hits, including 'Come Sail Away,'  'Renegade,' and 'The Grand Illusion.'  They even dug deep into their catalog for such fan favorites as 'Light Up,' and were joined on stage by tour mate and former Eagles guitar legend Don Felder for 'Blue Collar Man.'  Felder's show earlier that same night was also filmed for AXS TV, which will air immediately following STYX's special.  Felder's special culminates with special guest STYX guitarist Tommy Shaw trading vocals and the classic electric guitar licks on 'Hotel California.'

Meanwhile, as STYX's headlining tour continues to work its way across the U.S., the legendary Rock band has confirmed a massive summer tour supporting another legendary Rock band, Def Leppard, along with Tesla.  The three-month trek will launch in June and conclude October 4 in Bismarck, ND at the Bismarck Civic Center.  Combined, STYX--Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitar), James 'JY' Young (guitar, vocals), Chuck Panozzo (bass), Lawrence Gowan (vocals, keyboards), Ricky Phillips (bass) and Todd Sucherman (drums)--and Def Leppard have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

'Our 2007 tour with Def Leppard forged a friendship that's never wavered,' proclaims STYX singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw.  'It was such an unforgettably fun experience for us.  We've all been waiting for the planets to align so we could do it again.  Well friends, they have indeed aligned!  And this time, those soulful bad boys from Sacramento, Tesla, will be there, too.  What a night of music this will be!
Is summer here yet? Come on!'

Guitarist James 'JY' Young is equally as excited.  "The mutual admiration society between Styx and Def Leppard began in the UK in 1978 when Joe Elliott attended Styx's first-ever performance in Def Leppard's home town of Sheffield, England,' he says.  'Both bands having emanated from working class beginnings, either on the South Side of Chicago, or the Steel Town of Sheffield, England, there is a natural camaraderie and synergy amongst them.  I feel like these guys are long-lost brothers of mine.  It's going to be Guitars A-blazin' and Drums A-poundin' regardless of who's on the stage, featuring arguably the most successful rock band of the late 1980's, paired with one of the most successful bands of the late 1970s, early 1980s.  The ingestion of too much sugar can lead to illness, but 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' is a recipe for healthy smiles and a fun night for everyone!!!'

STYX COMES THROUGH WITH TERRIFIC PERFORMANCE IN SOLD-OUT CALIFORNIA SHOW
By Gerry Gittelson

Melodicrock.com Los Angeles correspondent

ANAHEIM, Calif., USA -- It's been more than 15 years since Dennis DeYoung left the rock band Styx, yet the fivesome plays on -- performing a lot more shows every year than Styx did when their great founding singer was still around.
Styx made their way through Southern California just recently, including a sold-out performance Thursday, Jan. 21 at City National Grove in the shadow of Disneyland, and the capacity crowd was going crazy for all the hits like "Blue Collar Man," "Renegade" and of course "Come Sail Away."

Original guitarists Tommy Shaw and James Young remain, and both have done a good job combating the cruel realities of the calendar. At 61, Shaw, especially, still looks young and fit, and his voice was darn near perfect on "Man in The Wilderness" and "Crystal Ball."
Young took the microphone for "Miss America," proving full well that he can kick some ass, too.

Meanwhile, Canadian import Lawrence Gowan has settled in nicely as DeYoung's replacement -- no easy task -- and though the tenor of Gowan's voice sounds different, he still came through with well-executed versions of "Lady," "Come Sail Away" and "Suide Madame Blue," as all three selections proved among the evening's highlights.

For nearly two hours Styx rocked, and there was never a dull moment. The band has a keen feel for timing with a little choreography thrown in, and it never hurts to throw in a Beatles classic -- in this case, "I Am The Walrus."
Bassist Ricky Phillips from The Babys and Bad English did a fine job holding down the beat with drummer drummer Todd Sucherman, and original Styx bassic Chuck Panozzo even came out to join in for a few songs like "Fooling Yourself."
In all, a triumphant night for Styx, no question about it. The band is still among America's best, and the fact there was nothing offered that predated 1983 or so should be seen as a bonus, not a negative.

No reason to play new material when there are so many classics. It's a good position to be in. Nostalgic? Maybe. Thoroughly entertaining? You bet.

STYX & FOREIGNER DONATE $10k TO PHILLY FIRE DEPT AFTER BUS FIRE

Two classic rock bands gave a big thank you to the Philadelphia Fire Department for coming to their aid last week.

The tour buses for Styx and Foreigner caught fire on July 2 in Northern Liberties. The buses were used for crews supporting the bands, in town to play at WMGK's Let Freedom Rock Fest.
Foreigner let fans know everyone was fine.

The fire started on the Styx bus and spread to the Foreigner bus, WMGK’s promotion director Dan Fein said.

Both buses were empty at the time, and people had already removed most of their belongings from them. No gear was damaged, Fein said.

To thank the Philadelphia Fire Department for their efforts, the bands gave $10,000 to the Philadelphia Fire Department Local #22 Widows Fund. During their show at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden last Thursday, the bands donated proceeds from the sale of their joint compilation album "The Soundtrack of Summer" to the local fireman's charity.

The groups were two of the hottest bands back in the '70s and '80s, Styx on the strength of hits like “Show Me the Way” and “Rockin’ the Paradise” and Foreigner with hits “Cold as Ice” and “Hot Blooded."

Diana Warner Designs Rock To The Rescue Jewelry Collection With Styx

June 10, 2014 -- Fashion designer Diana Warner (www.dianawarnerstudio.com) has partnered with legendary rock band STYX to support Rock to the Rescue (R2R, www.rocktotherescue.net) with a brand new jewelry collection.

Rock To The Rescue is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit founded in 2002 by STYX and REO Speedwagon to help victims of the 9/11 tragedy. Playing a series of benefit concerts that included friends such as Bad Company, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas and others, Rock to the Rescue was an effort that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the support of families who had lost loved ones to the 9/11 tragedy. Realizing the power of these efforts, STYX and REO went on to play shows to benefit additional causes such as music education for children, and continued to engage in charitable giving in communities around the country.

Diana Warner's partnership with and love for STYX along with her desire to help others made this collaboration a perfect fit. “I have to like something before I support something. I love that R2R focuses on America. Here’s a major rock n ’roll band whose focus is on needs that exist in this country, and they’re doing something about it,” stated Warner.

Diana Warner has created four signature pieces for the R2R Collection: a ring, pendant, earrings, and a charm that perfectly capture the Diana Warner aesthetic while paying homage to an edgy, rock and roll fashion sensibility.

The Diana Warner brand is also focused on philanthropic initiatives and R2R is the perfect partner for a designer with such a profound passion for both community outreach and music. The R2R collection is sold at Diana Warner stores located in Knoxville and NYC, and online at www.dianawarnerstudio.com.

Each year, STYX has tour dates in over 100 cities across North America and in each city, the band choses a local, grassroots organization to support. In 2013 R2R raised over $100,000 for the One Boston Fund after the Boston marathon bombings as well as over $400,000 for Midwest cities ravaged by tornadoes. To date R2R has raised and donated over $1.5 M. Hannah Shaw, daughter of STYX lead singer Tommy Shaw, is executive director of R2R.

The R2R collection will be available at www.dianawarnerstudio.com as well as at select authorized Diana Warner retailers.
