THE BABYS: Silver Dreams - Complete Albums 1975-1980, 6CD Boxset Out Nov 22

Artist:

“Silver Dreams: The Complete Albums 1975-1980” is a fitting and thorough testament to a band that truly deserved to crossover into mainstream success. As a bonus, this collection’s 6th disc kicks off with the live, promo only “Live At The Tower Theatre, Philadelphia” from a 1977 concert whilst promoting their debut record. To complete the picture we go back to their very first recordings, with the aforementioned “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”

The Babys are probably better known for what their various members achieved later in their careers; singer John Waite’s massive solo success with the single ‘Missing You’ in 1984, and keyboard player Jonathan Cain, who would go on to be a principal member and song writer with Journey. In fact you’d be forgiven for thinking that The Babys were an American band, such was their impact on the US during the latter half of the 1970s and into the early 1980s, but their origins go back to London in 1974, when keyboard player Mike Corby met Adrian Millar, who were joined by Wally Stocker on lead guitar, Tony Brock on drums, and singer/ bass guitarist John Waite.

Although an album was recorded and shelved in 1975, included here on CD6 as “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”, for the debut album proper they signed to Chrysalis Records in 1976 to release their eponymous debut, “The Babys”. Co-produced by Bob Ezrin, “The Babys” set their stall out from the beginning as melodic rockers, propelled by John Waite’s bluesy, soulful vocals. Bonus tracks are ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (Alternative Mix), ‘Head Above The Waves’ (B-Side) and ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (mono).

Released within a year, 1977’s “Broken Heart” featured the hit singles ‘Isn’t It Time’ (US #13 & UK #45) and ‘Silver Dreams’. This time the album was produced by Ron Nevison, famed for his work for The Who, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Bad Company, as well as Chrysalis label mates UFO. Bonus tracks are ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’, ‘Silver Dreams (mono)’, plus single edit and mono versions of ‘Isn’t It Time’.

Sticking with Ron Nevison for 1978’s “Head First”, The Babys had trimmed down to a three-piece of John Waite, Wally Stocker and Tony Brock. Peaking at #22, “Head First” was their highest charting US album, and features the singles ‘Every Time I Think Of You’ (US #13) plus the title track, ‘Head First’.

Produced by Keith Olsen, famed for his platinum work with the Rick Springfield, Pat Benatar, Heart, Whitesnake, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, by 1980’s “Union Jacks” The Babys had been joined by Jonathan Cain on keyboards and Ricky Phillips on bass. Featuring the singles ‘Midnight Rendezvous’ and ‘Back On My Feet Again’, mono versions of these tracks are also included as bonus tracks.

Sticking with producer Keith Olsen, and maintaining the same line-up as “Union Jacks”, their fifth and final album in as many years was 1980’s “On The Edge”. Featuring mono versions of ‘Turn And Walk Away’ and ‘Postcard’, The Babys split shortly after the album’s release.

In The Studio - THE BABYS

February 23, 2017, Dallas, TX -  InTheStudio.NET, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show In The Studio with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands  takes a look at a late ‘70s contender, The Babys, with a candid conversation with singer John Waite and keyboardist Jonathan Cain on the 40th anniversary year of their first hit “Isn’t It Time?”

That first musically ambitious Top 15 single from the original band of Waite, Michael Corby, Tony Brock, and Wally Stocker created enough momentum for the British quartet to inspire The Babys’ breakout 1979 album Head First, which itself peaked at # 22 and produced another Top 15 hit single “Every Time I Think of You”.  But after 1980’s Union Jacks album, which delivered “Back on My Feet Again” and the infectious “Midnight Rendezvous”, the band stumbled figuratively and, in lead singer John Waite’s unfortunate case, quite literally. But how? John Waite and Jonathan Cain share with In The Studio host Redbeard their own personal recollections of life in rock’s neo-natal unit trying to grow in America as The Babys.

“We went on the road a lot... They (record company) wouldn’t let a day go by without us doing something. We’d play in the cafeteria of some college and then go play a major gig at night, or we’d fly to Japan the next morning after a major three week outing playing everywhere in America... It was a real whirlwind. It was a great time.” - John Waite

“There are a lot of reasons why we disbanded. I guess the biggest reason was the money, the past and all the (management) mistakes that were made... It was like a snowball rolling down a hill and there wasn’t really any stopping it.” - Jonathan Cain

THE BABYS Live In Los Angeles (Report)

LOS ANGELES, Calif., USA -- Once the darlings of rock radio in the 1970s, The Babys are back together after a long absence, and the former teen-idol band took a big step forward on Jan. 31 in a sold-out concert before a crowd of about 700 at the Lido Theatre in Newport Beach south of Los Angeles.

With a legion of baby boomers crowded up front and pumping their fists, The Babys tore through a nearly two-hour set that featured all the biggest hits like "Head First," "Midnight Rendez-Vous" and an especially well-executed version of "Isn't It Time."

Originals Wally Stocker (guitar) and Tony Brock (drums) still have the chops, and both still look pretty cool --  Brits never age, right? -- and The Babys have welcomed new singer John Bisaha, a redhead just like John Waite, who is not an easy man to replace.

The Babys have legitimized their comeback with a new album called "I'll Have Some of That!" that includes a new Billboard hot sales hit called "I See You There."

Bisaha, who also plays bass, proved in fine vocal form. He hits all the notes, and though he does not sound exactly like Waite -- no one does -- Bisaha comes close, and what's definitely clear is the new singer is overflowing with natural talent.

Another guitarist named Joey Sykes is also on board, and two female backup singers plus side keyboard player Francesco Staglietti add autenticity.

The Babys opened with "Back on My Feet Again," and that gave the band momentum from the very beginning. Some of the other highlights were "Every Time I Think of You," "Postcard," "Love Don't Prove I'm Right" and "Wrong or Right."

The standing-room-only crowd was really into it. The Babys have a good chance to make an impact -- the group is playing in New York and Philadelphia in June -- so they're definitely a classic-rock band to keep on eye on.

New York, NY (January 12, 2015)'With the release of their new album I'll Have Some Of That, and their single 'I See You There' hitting the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Single Sales chart at the end of 2014, The Babys aren't slowing down any time soon...

The newly released video for 'I See You There' is an intimate look at the band in a 'behind-the-scenes' setting: songwriting, collaborating, performing, and generally enjoying making music together. The song, written by guitarist Joey Sykes, revitalizes the classic Babys melodic flair ' that sound that made smash hits out of 'Every Time I Think Of You,' 'Head First,' and 'Back On My Feet Again.'

Additionally, The Babys are proud to announce exclusive representation with booking agency Ashley Talent International, and a 2015 tour is in the works.

'We're thrilled and honored to represent a band that not only possesses a rich history of hit records in the past, but has now achieved a Top 10 Billboard sales chart position in present times,' states Ashley Talent International CEO Mark Hyman.

The release of I'll Have Some Of That marked a new era for the band. With new members Sykes and John Bisaha (lead vocalist/bassist), The Babys have retained the hooks, the melodies, the pristine songwriting, and the rich female backing vocals. It's all there, reinstating the band's signature sound.

The Babys are ready to carry that sound across the US and beyond when they hit the road this year, because let's face it' 'Isn't It Time?'
