STEVE N SEAGULLS Heads to 'Grainsville' For 3rd Outing

In the current flux of the music business the new kings of the realm are the YouTube vloggers and cover artists playing the classic tracks of yesteryear. Finland’s favorite hinterland hicks STEVE ‘N’ SEAGULLS sort of unintentionally figured out how to be both.

A long story short: by nature, Steve’N’Seagulls is a Finnish band playing bluegrass(ish) versions of classic rock tracks with an astonishing arsenal of acoustic instruments ranging almost the whole alphabet starting from accordion, banjo, Cajon, double bass and so forth. Dressed in overalls, beaver hats and other clodhopper paraphernalia they look like preposterous stereotypes of your average moonshining, tobacco-chewing American corn-fed rednecks of bygone days.

Having originally uploaded their hilariously hillbillified but air-tightly played rendition of AC/DC’s seminal “Thunderstruck” on YouTube just for a laugh they found themselves in the receiving end of the shock of their lifetimes in the form of millions upon millions of viewers. The rollicking rednecks started to think there might actually be something here. After a couple more videos the joke first spun completely out of the band’s control, then grew bigger than them and has been snowballing ever since. Instead of merely cornering a predictable minuscule niche of their own, faster than a privileged internet social justice warrior can scream “cultural appropriation”, Steve’N’Seagulls ended up with a recording deal with Spinefarm Records, a continuous streak of tours and had their accomplishments plastered all over the pages and websites of all major metal media, with the likes of Guitar World, Revolver, Loudwire, Blabbermouth and Metal Sucks leading the charge.

After dropping their debut Farm Machine (2015) the band played 175 shows, toured in 20 countries and a dozen US states, made the audiences line-dance at the biggest rock festivals on the planet like Wacken Open Air, Sweden Rock, Summer Breeze, Rencontres Trans Musicales, Qstock, Nummirock and so on. Mere 16 months removed from the debut, the country dropped the foundations-shaking sophomore album, Brothers In Farms. The album was a revelation. Not only did it feature the first original Steve’N’Seagulls song amongst its 13 tracks, it conquered the #1 position on the BillBoard Bluegrass Albums chart in January of 2016, signifying not just the first time a Finnish band has hit #1 on ANY BillBoard album chart but also the chuckle worthy occasion that a band from a country your average American redneck has never even heard of, beats the American hayseeds in their own game.

After the third album the number of countries where the Gulls have burned the barns in closing in 30 and the mileage their trusty clunker of a van has had to endure can be challenged only by spaceships. And more is to come!

On their third outing, Grainsville, the Gulls’ musical evolution gets more risqué. The album comes armed with three originals, and the new song arrangements too feature some fresh, unexpected twists. Instead of just having fun and merriment non-stop, the songs feature curveball influences from World Music, such as Mariachi horns, stomping Balkanite beats and some flashy fiddling. The album even features a haunting version of the probably most infamous disco booty call ever…the way an obsessed stalker might sing it.
With another landmark album under their belt it’s time for the Gulls to tour again ‘til the wheels fall off the wagon!

STEVE'N'SEAGULLS GO FROM VIRAL SENSATION TO SIGNED ACT

SPINEFARM RECORDS' DEBUT FARM MACHINE OUT MAY 12
BAND REVEALS NEW VIDEO AC/DC's "YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG"
What became a genuine international viral phenomenon, actually started out on a farm  in central Finland; in a barn, to be precise..
There, a bunch of like-minded countrymen with the emphasis on "ccountry" played a customized version  of AC/DC's "Thunderstrucck," using homespun instrumentation, everything from banjo picking to anvil bangin' to achieve their original take on a classic. They filmed the event, posted the results on YouTube, and within a couple of weeks, the clip had accumulated over five million views. It's now topped out at 10 million.

Pretty impressive, right? For Steve'N'Seagulls, this was a bolt from the blue, but then, as history shows us, the greatest stories ever told tend to start in a stable... Yes, a stable.
Now, the band is gearing up to release Farm Machine on Spinefarm on May 12. "Finally it's complete!" exclaims the band. "And the fruits of our labour please us. We are now preparing to take on the world!"

The band has just revealed the video for its version on another AC/DC stalwart "You Shook Me All Night Long." Video features hilariouss moments in the barn, as well as awkward moments at the ice hockey rink. Shakin’ Steves all night long!

Watch the video here

If you need a refresher on who, exactly, Steven'N'Seagulls are, then settle in and get schooled.

Sporting possibly the greatest band name in history, S'N'S, comprised of an acoustic guitarist/vocalist; a banjo player; a double-bassist; a big dude wearing overalls and a beaver hat playing mandolin/keyboards/accordion/whatever-he-gets-his-hands-on; and a cajon-straddlin' percussionist, have delivered a 13-track album featuring rural riffs and villager vocals, filled to the brim with "hillbillified" versions of immortal heavy metal standards; the track listing is below.

It's a body of work best enjoyed with a bathtub of moonshine close at hand, but really, as foot-stompingly  enjoyable as S'N'S are on record, you ain't seen nothin' 'til you've experienced The 'Gulls live.

The redneck show tours nonstop, rocking the honky-tonks overseas... for now. Steve'N'Seagulls will skedaddle off to Swedish and Norwegian soil, before raisin' hell at European festivals.
In September, they are planning to head over to the U.S. and Canada before returning to Europe for further merriment and mayhem.

Let the hillbillification commence...

Track Listing:
"Grand Opening"
"Black Dog"

SPINEFARM SIGNS STEVE 'N' SEAGULLS

NEW ALBUM OUT IN 2015
Five nutcases. A whole bunch of instruments. The Finnish countryside. All that adds up to Steve 'N' Seagulls. This ragtag crew has been active since 2011, but they hit like a hammer in the summer of 2014, thanks to the popularity of their YouTube videos, which found them offering up S'N'S'ed versions of metal classics like Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" and AC/DC's "Thunderstruck."

The videos have earned praise and coverage from the elite of the metal world, with Guitar World, Revolver, Loudwire, Blabbermouth and Metal Sucks picking up on and writing about their efforts. 'Nuff said.

Now you have the chance to see and hear Steve 'N' Seagulls for yourself, as the band has signed to Spinefarm.

Banjo keeps a rollin' and accordion keeps on burnin'. Your quality of life will probably be greatly improved once you mindmeld with this musical experience. Hold on to your hats and skirts, kids!

Steve 'N' Seagulls are: Pukki Kaalinen on double bass and vocals; Wild Till Hiltunen on accordion, mandolin and Casio; Herman de German on banjo, guitar and vocals; Remmel on vocals, acoustic guitar and mandolin; and Puikkonen on drums, percussions and vocals.

One thing Steve 'N' Seagulls want you to know? They are not a joke act or a novelty.

"It took us about three years to get the sound we were aiming at," the band said of its origins and history. "We wanted to give a new life to songs we grew up with, not just do basic covers, and our agency provided the opportunity. Our agency needed a 'concept band' for theme events in restaurants. Now, we had been doing those kind of gigs before and knew the places to be probably half-empty. Still, it sounded like a fun project, so we took the job. After the first 20-gig tour, we wanted to keep on doing it and they kept on booking us gigs in nightclubs, pubs, cruise boats and such. After replacing our singer, we posted 'The Trooper' video on YouTube simply because we hadn't published anything with the new lineup. Then it just took off somehow. But we aren't complaining!"

Three years of touring in Finland brought the band some local attention. But it was those videos posted on YouTube that have already brought the band further acclaim than it ever imagined. "All of this started out as a much more small-scale operation, but hey, we'll take all we can get!," they said.

The band is working its first album at Studio Bad Mama, which is located at the outskirts of its hometown. The concept is a mixture of S'N'S's love for music and a celebration of childhood idols.

Despite the fun nature of the band, it's not a novelty act, with Steve 'N' Seagulls saying, "Even though we like to have fun with music we also truly take it seriously. That's why we feel that Spinefarm is just the label for us. We've been basically working on songs that we find interesting and what makes us feel good and laugh. It looks like accidentally other people found them interesting too. We're absolutely stunned to be working on our first album with Spinefarm. It's important to us that label is also all about music."

Want another taste of Steve 'N' Seagulls? Have it here, as the band offers up its take on Metallica's epic power ballad "Nothing Else Matters."

Also, check out their take on Dio's classic "Holy Diver."
