Gotthard: A new team in 2004.
Gotthard Interview with Steve Lee by Sven Horlemann - from the Bang Your Head Festival 2004

At the Bang-Your-Head Festival in Germany (read the review here) I had the chance to talk to Steve Lee from Gotthard right before their concert. We did the interview in German, so what you are about to read is my translation.

Thanks go out to Frank Süpfle to make it happen.

MelodicRock – Hello Steve, I would like to know the actual status with in the band. Last news is you have a new band member. Also 'Human Zoo' marks a new era for the band because it was the first time Gotthard worked without Chris von Rohr (mentor of the band since the beginning).

Steve – Well I have to say that the 'Human Zoo' tour was the best tour we ever did. After 14 years of Gotthard rocking the world me and the band are very proud on what we achieved. You know that being in such a kind of business you have your highs and lows, but until now each year we were fortunate enough to get the band another step further. We also stick to our original music style. Of course we also like to experiment.

'Human Zoo' as an album was more rockier, after some more melodic releases we had. Still we had our signature ballads on 'Human Zoo'. After the 'Human Zoo' tour we had to discuss within the band some problems we had with our management, with people outside the band. So first of all we had to “clean our house”. I have to say that now we are pretty much on the right way. We have a new management, we have a new guitar player – Freddy…

MelodicRock – … Freddy (Laurence) is known as a member of CHINA …

Steve – … yeah, Freddy was with China and did work with a lot of bands since then, therefore he his very professional. Mandy Meyer did want to release a solo record, also we had some discussions about the musical direction…

MelodicRock – … is he more into the melodic, the softer style?

Steve – I would say yes. You know, he is a great musician, but he always kept to himself. Like living in his own world.

MelodicRock – And Gotthard is a team…

Steve – That is right, the four original members of us are a team for more than 14 years now. Freddy will take part on the current tour and our activities throughout this year, and then we'll see. Generally Gotthard are the four of us plus Freddy.

MelodicRock – It seems to me that he is the right player for Gotthard.

Steve – Well I have to say this is the 3rd concert we do with him. I have to admit I am deeply impressed with him learning about 30 songs in 2 weeks. We had our rehearsals, and it felt like we've been playing together for a long time.

Funny thing is, that Freddie knows Marc from his time with China, so there you have another instant connection. OK, with much lesser hairs now… (laughs). At least it is fashionable these days.

What I really like about this band is that right in your heart you have to feel it, and have the right attitude. Gotthard is not so much about fashions and what to wear. With Freddy we have fun on stage, and this is most important.

MelodicRock – If you are looking to bands like Harem Scarem, short hair without doubt is no problem these days.

Steve – Yeah, I know them. Though hard rock is conservative, if you are into the sound, music should come first.

MelodicRock – What I recall from the press in criticizing the 'Human Zoo' record is that they didn't find it as hard as they did expect it. After listening to it myself I have to say that the production certainly is a melodic rock, radio rock style, but the songs have more drive and a more rocky attitude.

Steve – You can hear that this record was written in rehearsals. This is not a studio recording. Gotthard always worked on the songs like a band should – rehearsing them together. In the studio you only have to press the record button and capture the song. It is like checking the songs out in a live environment. This certainly takes more time. I am really looking forward on the new songs.

MelodicRock – As far as I know there will be another release finishing your record deal with BMG International.

Steve – First of all there will be a 'Best Of'. With ballads and rockers. Then we plan to head to the studio in September, working on the new album. I think it will take some time to have the album ready. We want to take our time. You know, quality take its time. That is very important for us.

MelodicRock – When I am thinking of the Swiss rock scene, names like Krokus, China and of course Gotthard come to my mind. Leaving the underground aside, these three names are mile stones in the melodic rock world wide.

Steve – I think there is a simple reason for this. A lot of Swiss people who want to become successful are singing in one of the 4 Swiss dialects or Italian. Most of these people are lacking the courage to use English as their musical language and try to succeed on an international level. A lot who tried this were laughed at …

MelodicRock – … reminds me of the Scorpions in Germany …

Steve – … absolutely. Right in the beginning of Gotthard we had the same discussions with people. We realized from the beginning if the music comes from the heart, there are no boundaries.

MelodicRock – That is something that impressed me from the beginning. Your international level in the studio as well as on stage. Seeing you live and Hena (Habegger the drummer) giving the songs such a drive, making you compete successful with all the other international acts…

Steve – Yeah Hena was on the musicians institute in the USA. Acutally James Kottak (ex-Kingdom Come, ex-Warrant, Scorpions to name a few) was his teacher. We did meet him in the USA. The original drummer had physical problems so we were looking for a new drummer. First we did want to have James Kottak, but he declined because of scheduling problems and recommended Hena, who just finished his studies and by the way was also a Swiss.

MelodicRock – The first albums all were very straight forward, groovy. Still you don't want to be like AC/DC, staying limited to one style. Kind of the Survivor syndrome (hey I like all the bands, ok!). So the break was possible with your record 'D-frosted', an acoustic and orchestral album that was different. Did you plan on that?

Steve – Yeah we did. After the first three hard rocking albums we wanted to do something special, using acoustic guitars etc. I have to admit we always did a little bit what others already had done. So we wanted to make an unplugged record. And we were lucky. 'D-frosted' was the album that put us on the top of Swiss music scene.

But not in all countries. Japan or Germany for example are much more into the harder songs, so they were not very happy about the album.

Next came the big question: Are we going to do another hard rock record or shall we take the softer approach? Of course then we did 'Open', a record were I still like the songs very much. But I am not so happy with the production. Today I feel it is too much a pop production. Sound wise we achieved a better result with with the next album 'Homerun'.

MelodicRock – 'Eagle', I love that song!

Steve – You like that? That's interesting. Well then you are happy to know that a lot of the new songs will be in this direction.

MelodicRock – Oh, that would be great! When I listened to the Anthrax concert I was overwhelmed with the audience reaction. I was wondering why, and the answer seems to be simple: they got hook lines, and people love to sing along.

Steve – Absolutely.

MelodicRock – Someone once said that whatever style you are playing, if you can play a song on an acoustic guitar and make the people feel it, then it is a good song.

Steve – You are absolutely right. The way I see the 80's rock genre starts all over again, you can feel that people like to hear those songs again. People love to hear melodies, and when the band is right …

MelodicRock – … and the voice is great …

Steve – … of course the voice is a big part of it. If you have a great band but a not so great singer, then you have a problem. I believe the voice you get from god, and everything else is discipline and working on it.

MelodicRock – I feel that classic rock is coming back. Not meaning some old dated music but bands that still put out very good albums with new songs. Do you think you are part of this trend?

Steve – I would say that a lot of songs we did write fit perfectly in this genre. Not all, but some. We are heavily influenced by the bands of the end of 70's, beginning eighties. Being the oldest in the band, I grew up with Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin and still hear them today.

Man, we had the chance to be playing 5 shows with Deep Purple in France. There you see that they still love to play their music. They have a lot of fun playing on stage. After the 2nd show Ian Gillan came up and said we should play 'Hush' because they liked the Gotthard version so much. That was very cool. The French fans did receive us very well, by the way. Deep Purple are really gentleman's of rock'n'roll.

MelodicRock – I remember interviews with Steve Morse complaining about the song announcements of Ian Gillan, because he has a hard time understanding what he says. Also in rehearsals, with their British accents, sometimes everybody is laughing only he didn't get the joke. Is this something that could happen within Gotthard too? You also have different languages spoken by the individual band members.

Steve – Ha ha, Freddy comes from the French side of Switzerland, Leo is from the Tessin, so he speaks Italian, I speak everything a bit, but my main focus would be in Italian. Still it sometimes is a bit chaotic having 3, 4 languages in your head all the time.

During the interview you might have noticed that sometimes I am looking for the right words. Maybe I got it in English or Italian, but I am looking for the German expression. But after all this time we got used to it.

MelodicRock – Looking in the future, what feelings do you have regarding Gotthard?

Steve – To be honest, 5 months ago I was a little bit uncertain on how things will develop. As I told you we changed a lot of things like our management, Mandy Meyer left the band and for some months we didn't know what the future will bring.

We knew that we wanted to proceed as a band musically and on a business level. We had people involved were we were not convinced with the job they had done, financially spoken. We were disappointed. To break up was the best decision.

Today I am much more convinced that this band has a great future and will make a great new album. Even if you are in the late thirties, if it is in your heart you can still rock'n'roll.

Overall you have to have fun in what you are doing. This is the fuel to the machine. We have so much fun going on stage and play rock music, this is the most important thing for us.

MelodicRock – You mentioned the business aspect. Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver) at some point wanted to understand the accounting that has been done leading up to the royalties he got and started to study accounting. He said that his knowledge was very helpful for the Velvet Revolver negotiations because he understood every aspect of the negotiations, which also earned him some respect.

Steve – Actually some in the band have learned to understand the accounting. This is when we found things we were not very happy with. It is amazing what some of the people earn with what you do as a band. Whatever, we look into the future now and things look promising. We wanted our freedom to decide what to do next, and not some legal battles. In Switzerland some people tried to make it a big topic, talking about it in the magazines.

MelodicRock – In Germany I didn't hear something bad about you separation from the old management.

Steve – I think there was something in the internet. But in the internet also someone wrote that Gotthard split up. Maybe these were some envy related issues, I don't know. We didn't say something about it. We thought it best to come back right on stage and prove them wrong.

MelodicRock – Steve, anything else you want to share with MelodicRock.com?

Steve – We will also play in Athens in August, you know. This is very cool. Just a small 20 minute concert, more for the Olympic teams there.

I'd like to say that we will be back in the studio in September, beginning next year you can expect a new record. There will be the 'Best Of' album, but this doesn't mean this is the end of Gotthard. It is merely a conclusion of a contract.

MelodicRock – Are there some bonus tracks for the 'Best Of'?

Steve – Oh, we got lot's of bonus tracks. I won't go into details now, but there will be the Olympia song we did for the Swiss team on the album.

MelodicRock – Steve, thank you for this interview. It was a pleasure talking to you.

Steve – Thank you too, Sven, and take care.

CORE LEONI Set For New Album 'II' Out Sept 27 on AFM Records

Artist:

Categories:
News Feed
He is one of the truest and most passionate Rock musicians of the last decades. And though time stood never still for Gotthard founding member and guitarist Leo Leoni.

CoreLeoni - he named his passion for big, timeless Classic Rock, for pure music nostalgy, added with a modern sound. On September 27th their second album ‘CoreLeoni II’ will be released.

Next to Gotthard songs from the early stage as well as two brand new tracks the album contains a cover of John Lee Hooker’s ‘Boom Boom Boom’.

Since the release of the first record that has simply been called ‘The Greatest Hits Part 1’, CoreLeoni has appeared as a transmitter between analog electric guitar and modern studio production. But CoreLeoni not only represent the music spirit of the early 90es, they also live the feeling that has been alive on, behind and in front of stage in these times: CoreLeoni is a high class band ensemble consisting of close friends and long-term colleagues that are next to Leo Leoni pioneering for that period and share a lot of memories with him.

Together with Rainbow-singer and Lords Of The Black founding member and ex-singer Ronnie Romero, Hena Habegger (drums, Gotthard), Jgor Gianola (guitar, ex-Gotthard/U.D.O./Jorn Lande) as well as Mila Merker (bass, Soulline) Leoni shows, that Classic Rock doesn ´t need to be old fashioned. Songs from the early Gotthard days are coming along in a completely new sound outfit.

On the second album coming out end of September, Leoni once more pays tribute to his passion for high class Rock music and brings back some good old Gotthard tracks to life.

With the exception of two songs as well as the John Lee Hooker cover it’s all Gotthard hits from the early days being translated to 2019.

‘Queen Of Hearts and ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ are the titles of the brand new tracks on the album, fitting perfectly into the other big Rock hymns.

Leoni had the idea to found CoreLeoni when Gotthard were celebrating their 25th anniversary. ‘When we play shows, we nowadays have to leave out a lot of the old songs as there are so many new ones that have to find their place in the setlist’, Leo explains. ‘But especially a lot of the old songs really mean a lot to me and will always be a big part of me. That’s why I decided to record them again and bring them back into the current times, also sound-wise.’

How good that works, CoreLeoni could prove during a tour last year. Press and fans have equally been enthusiastic about it. And also among the musicians it quickly became obvious: CoreLeoni needs to be continued.

‘So many beautiful memories and the really special feeling that we also had during the days back then have been awaking.’

The musician from Swiss part Tessin belongs to the best international Rock guitarists and is part of the most successful Swiss band Gotthard. Every studio album after the debut reached number 1 in the national charts, all albums have been rewarded with several platinum awards. Gotthard are also holding a rare diamond award for selling more than 1 million records in Switzerland only.

Guitarist Jgor Gianola has been part of Gotthard during the early days as well before he decided to move on to U.D.O., the current band of music legend and ex-Accept singer Udo Dirkschneider, as well as Norwegian Rockers Jorn Lande. Also drummer Hena Habegger is a founding member of Gotthard. Last year he fulfilled a big dream and opened a drum school in Tessin.

Singer Ronnie Romero has been born in Chile and has been the singer oft Spanish Rock band Lords Of The Black. Since 2016 he is part of Rainbow, the band of legendary Richie Blackmore. With this big step in his career a long-term dream has been fulfilled for him. Just some months ago he has been touring big stadiums with Rainbow and can look back to several admirable festival shows as well, such as Monsters Of Rock.

Bass player Mila Merker has been born in Swiss Bellinzona and is a long-term friend of Leo and Jgor. His own band is called Soulline, being well-known for playing a technical challenging form of Melodic Death Metal.

GOTTHARD PRESENTS AN ACOUSTIC TIMETABLE THROUGH MORE THAN 25 YEARS OF BAND HISTORY:
"DEFROSTED 2" APPEARS ON DECEMBER 7, 2018

"Defrosted" released in 1997 - was GOTTHARD’s very first live album. Still to this day it’s seen as a cult-milestone within the bands career that helped establish their reputation as the most successful band from Switzerland. For more than 25 years, GOTTHARD have thrived in the global spotlight; with a career that includes 16 No.1-albums, over three million records sold, multiple awards and over 2000 shows all over the planet.

And now, 21 years after the first edition, GOTTHARD return to SONY Switzerland and Nuclear Blast with »Defrosted 2«, an ultimate unplugged-compilation of GOTTHARD’s greatest hits. "Defrosted 2" combines the pride of their lengthy career by showcasing 22 of the bands most iconic tracks. It provides a perfect cross section of the bands formidable career that can be appreciated by all.

Before the release of »Defrosted 2«, which will be available in both Ecolbook and 4-vinyl formats in December, GOTTHARD will release driving rock‘n‘roll track “Bye Bye Caroline“ as the first single this Friday. As one of two brand new songs on the album the song was lyrically inspired by STATUS QUO‘s 1973 hit "Caroline" and was created with Francis Rossi himself, on the last Rock Meets Classic Tour.

“I got to know Leo and Nic at the shows we did together this spring“ explains Rossi. “On the Rock Meets Classic-Tour, there was a comradeship that I haven‘t experienced like this in over 50 years. Leo, Nic and I perfectly got along with each other right from the start, so one evening, I went over to GOTTHARD‘s backstage room with my guitar and we started jamming. Nic immediately started singing some cool melodies to it and Leo said, that the song somehow had to contain "Caroline". Only months later, Rossi invited both of them to his house in London to record “Bye Bye Caroline“ in his home-studio. Whilst in London the band also recorded an accompanying video for the single.

"Defrosted 2" was produced by Leo Leoni in collaboration with Nicolo Fragile and as usual, Charlie Bauerfeind was responsible for the mix. A lovingly selected array of sophisticated acoustic arrangements and with two and a half decades of hits, GOTTHARD celebrate exuberantly great moments, quiet memories and unsurpassed riffs on »Defrosted 2«– the pre-order starts on October 5th, 2018.

THEY JUST CAN’T HELP THEMSELVES ...
Call it insanity, love, passion or obsession: Not by any stretch of the imagination are GOTTHARD willing to keep their feet still. After the triumphant Silver/Anniversary Tour with 50 shows in front of 300,000 people, multiple chart records and prime time slots at every important festival, Leo, Freddy, Marc, Hena, and Nic are releasing the next sensational news: Precisely 20 years after the release of the “DEFROSTED” album, GOTTHARD are gleefully whetting their instruments to get the legendary live experience back on the road in 2018.

REVIEW: DEFROSTED 1997
In the late 90s, the release of the spectacular unplugged live album “DEFROSTED” rang the bell for a whole new era: After an impressive rocket launch with headliner tours and their first #1 albums in Switzerland, GOTTHARD went all in again with an unplugged live album. Successfully. “DEFROSTED” reached double platinum sales after three months, and the accompanying tour across sold-out clubs and onto massive festival stages went on for two years instead of the originally slated two months due to overwhelming demand – additionally providing the boys with a brand-new fan base. Because of its extraordinary intimacy and atmosphere, the “DEFROSTED UNPLUGGED TOUR 1997” is still iconic today and a main topic throughout all media and fan communities.

PREVIEW: DEFROSTED 2018
Upping the ante is a matter of honor for the ultimate unplugged experience’s new edition. On the face of it, GOTTHARD have again selected the finest small clubs and secured the biggest festivals – however, on the inside, of course, the band is now equipped with over 20 years of additional experience and a truck load full of additional hits. The “DEFROSTED UNPLUGGED TOUR 2018” offers high fives with current and former guest musicians, all-time faves as well as new hits like “Heaven”, “Lift U Up” and “Anytime, Anywhere”, which weren’t even written in 1997 – and all of this wrapped in brand-new acoustic arrangements for a unique party full of great moments, quiet memories and much loved riffs.

BOTTOM LINE:
Those, who don’t want to risk waiting another 20 years, should keep a few nights clear in 2018 and watch out for the next newsletter: All dates of the “DEFROSTED UNPLUGGED TOUR 2018” will be announced here first.

Another 15 acts have been confirmed for this summer's Sweden Rock Festival: Scorpions, Kansas, Warlock, Wintersun, Wishbone Ash, The Dead Daisies, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Lucifer's Friend, Myrkur, Picture, Artch, Art Nation, Lost Society and Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies

Scorpions have taken their live show to another level with the inclusion of former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee in their line-up. This summer, the German hard rock legends are set to play their first show in Sweden with Gothenburg resident Mikkey behind the drum kit, and they will be bringing a spectacular new production and, of course, an amazing catalogue of songs to build a setlist from, such as "Rock you like a hurricane", "Blackout", "Big city nights", "Still loving you", "Dynamite", "The Zoo", "Still loving you", "Alien nation", "Send me an angel" and "Winds of change".

American prog rock icons Kansas have also been reignited lately. Their evergreens "Carry on wayward son" and "Dust in the wind" keep making appearances in movies and TV series, a new band line-up has the band sounding better than they have in many years and recently they released their first studio album since 2000. This summer, they fly to Europe for a single show at the Sweden Rock Festival.

2017 will also be the year when the undisputed queen of heavy metal, Doro Pesch, reunites with guitarist Tommy Bolan for four European shows under the name Warlock. One of these shows will be at the Sweden Rock Festival and the main focus of the concert will be on the bands fourth and most beloved album, "Triumph and agony" from 1987.

With this, the following 26 out of a total of 80 acts have been confirmed for Sweden Rock Festival 2017:

Aerosmith
Scorpions
In Flames
Running Wild
Kansas
Clutch
Venom

New GOTTHARD Studio Album Due January 13

Artist:
Friday, January 13, 2017

Quarter of a century ago, GOTTHARD set out to conquer the world with pure, straightforward rock and gigantic ballads and they’ve pulled off the trick: With 15 No.1 albums and plenty of multi-platinum awards, they’re not only the most successful Swiss band but also a staple in the global spotlight. Especially the much-deserved Swiss Music Award from last year has shown that the band’s nowhere near finished: GOTTHARD’s past 25 years have only been the first round – it’s definitely time for a new album in 2017!

GOTTHARD are currently refining their 12th studio album at the Yellow House Studio in Lugano. The title will be served straight to your desktop as soon as it’s decided. The third album with lead singer Nic Maeder is produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind Guardian among others) and Leo Leoni – so the dream team’s at it again: “We were all very happy with the workflow and the result of the BANG! production – so it was pretty clear that we wanted to give the great collaboration another shot!” The record will be released on January 13, 2017 on Musikvertrieb in Switzerland and internationally via PIAS – which means that the first Friday the 13th next year won’t spell bad luck. Quite the opposite.

ANNIVERSARY TOUR: KICKS OFF FEBRUARY 2017

Immediately after the release, the tour’s kicking off at full speed as well: From February 9, the big “25th Anniversary” tour is champing at the bit to turbocharge the new record with plenty of live rock ’n’ roll. The tour starts in Ravensburg and lays rubber all across Europe with full entourage. Danish rock band Pretty Maids will be Special Guests at all shows – the presale of this milestone birthday is already in full swing. Those who haven’t secured tickets yet, should check out Leo’s message again: “25 years of GOTTHARD – that means 150 songs to chose from, not mentioning our new album – that’s not going to be easy! However, we’ll select only the best for a proper anniversary party!”

2015 Debut of UK Based AOR Event 'ROCKINGHAM Festival'

Release Year:
2015

ROCKINGHAM PRESS RELEASE ~ THERE’S A NEW AOR SHERIFF IN TOWN….

A major new festival is about to land in the UK this autumn. This new endeavour is all set to deliver twenty-two bands in total, including a band that hasn’t played a gig since ’83, six that have never played in the UK, nine that have never played the proposed venue and a further three that haven't been to the UK in over a decade.

Rockingham is all set to take place at Nottingham’s Rock City over the weekend of the 24th to 26th October. Alongside Rock City, Dave Herron has booked and assembled a stellar line up of melodic rock goodness that should guarantee a healthy turnout.
Having been a fan of the genre for many years, Herron is no stranger to the world of Melodic Rock; utilising his vast experience and contacts to put together a bold and exciting line up, but that’s not all as Dave Herron explains, “you can expect a few surprise guest appearances throughout the weekend.”

\With its roots in the past, but its eyes firmly on the future, Rockingham is primed to become a permanent fixture on the UK festival circuit for the foreseeable future.

LINE UP:

FRIDAY 23rd

TOM KEIFER
As part of Cinderella, Keifer should be familiar to any self-respecting rock fan. This is his first visit to the UK as a solo artist and anticipation is high. Expect a mix of Cinderella classics and solo material.

ECLIPSE
Alongside HEAT, Eclipse is riding high as part of the new breed of AOR. If you caught them in the UK recently, then you’ll know what to expect: High-octane hard rock, delivered by a frontman who knows how to handle an audience.

ROBIN BECK
Robin’s been no stranger to these shores in recent years, bringing a series of stunning shows to the UK last year. Robin’s last album was her finest since her debut and she’s currently at the pinnacle of her career.

ROBERT TEPPER
From Rocky to Cobra and beyond. The king of soundtracks will be among many acts making their UK debut at Rockingham. With Tepper, Bush and Peterik in attendance it really will be 80’s soundtrack heaven.

ROMEO’S DAUGHTER
They are the finest female fronted AOR act the UK has ever produced. As a live act they never fail to deliver and are sure to set the bar high.

SERPENTINE
A new singer and a bold new sound, Serpentine are out to prove that this is their definitive line up. Their “Circle Of Knives” album sees them producing the goods in the studio, so expect nothing else from their live performance.

SANTA CRUZ
Loud and proud, these Finnish riff masters will be the perfect festival openers. If Skid Row and the Gunners are your kinda bands, then make sure you’re down the front for these bad boys.

SATURDAY 24th

GOTTHARD
Despite the tragic event that saw the enigmatic Steve Lee lose his life, Gotthard have kept his memory alive by doing what they do best, tearing it up live. There are a few select bands from the last few years that garner such high praise from the AOR cognoscenti, Gotthard are one of them.

DAN REED NETWORK
If ever a band deserved to be lauded from high then Portland’s finest are that act. They’ve toured with Bon Jovi and The Stones and their recent Download performance was magical. In another world they would have been huge, so get ready to mix it up some twenty-two years after they last appeared at Rock City.

JIM PETERIK
Grammy award winner Jim Peterik will be accompanied by a full live band so expect a heavily laiden Survivor set with classic songs also thrown in from JP’s 40+ year writing career , Ides Of March, 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar and REO Speedwagon to name but a few.

ELECTRIC BOYS
Roll out the Funk ‘o’ metal carpet and get ready to ride it all the way back to the late eighties as Sweden’s finest exponents of the genre take to the stage. They could be the festivals silent assassins, so take nothing for granted and miss them at your peril.

LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM
They maybe a vehicle for Michael Erlandsson these days, but take nothing away from LAD as they’ve an impressive back catalogue to draw from.

VEGA
Always a popular attraction, Vega is the great white hope of the AOR world. With three CDs worth of quality material to choose from, the only problem will be picking the right set.

CARE OF NIGHT
Swedish soft rock newcomers, Care Of Night, delivered a fine debut earlier in the year, the kind that the Westcoast genre was built on. If you’ve had a heavy night after the previous evening’s entertainment, then these boys will be the perfect openers.

SUNDAY 25th

DOKKEN
Back in ‘85/6 Dokken were riding the crest of a wave over in America. Their first four albums are rightly regarded as some of the finest of the era. They’ll be the perfect end to a fabulous weekend.

DAVID GLEN ISLEY, ALAN KRIGGER and CRAIG GOLDY OF GUIFFRIA
A Guiffria less, Guiffria? Well it’s done House Of Lords no harm for the last ten years. With David Glen Isley, Alan Krigger and Craig Goldy in attendance, they’ll be sure to do you right.

VALENTINE
Ex Zinatra keyboard player Robbie Valentine makes his UK debut as a solo artist and his brand of flamboyance is sure to light up the evening.

STAN BUSH
Backed by the rock band, Bailey, Stan Bush makes a welcome return to the UK for his first visit in over a decade. You can expect a jam packed set list, one that will cover all the bases.

ROYAL HUNT
The last time Royal Hunt appeared at a UK festival they damn near stole the weekend. A pompous, bombastic approach will have them appealing to many. With DC Cooper at the helm, a good time is almost guaranteed.

AMMUNITION
Having just stolen the show at the recent Vasby Rock festival, this collaboration between Age Sten Nillsen (Wig Wam) and Erik Martensson (Eclipse) is sure to be a must watch occasion. Their new album is one of this year’s highlights, after this performance you’ll understand why.

ISSA
AORs most popular pin up girl has just released what is arguably her best album. Her recent live performances have seen her in good form; this performance should be no exception.

NO HOT ASHES
An exclusive for the Melodicrock.com readers and that’s the addition of Irelands finest to the bill. Fresh from supporting FM on their recent UK tour, No Hot Ashes will deliver a pleasant set of jaunty AOR.

I think you’ll all agree that Rockingham Festivals AOR credentials have been fully endorsed by having such an array of talent on show. Fans and ticket buyers would also be wise to watch out for announcements of official pre and after shows in the coming months via the festivals Facebook page.
Dave Herron sums up the impending weekend perfectly, “It’s gonna be one hell of a party, with plans for 2016 already taking shape.”
