So Q5 return for album number 3, a mere 31 years since the cult classic When The Mirror Cracks first appeared.
The Seattle rockers reformed for Sweden Rock Fest a few years back and decided to try and keep things going, with 3 original members joined by a new drummer and second guitarist.
The band’s sophomore album saw them gain a cult following with its more keyboard infused melodic rock, a definite change of pace from the rawer 4-chord rock n roll of Steel The Light.

So which Q5 do we have in 2016? I’d best describe this album as a mix of the heavier AC/DC style of Steel The Light and something new. There really isn’t anything here that finds influence from When The Mirror Cracks. Personally I find that a shame, as it’s the album I clearly preferred by the guys.

The reality is that New World Order is an ok album for what it is – a raw, dirty, rock n roll album with gravelly vocals and a riffing guitar dominated sound – but is that what Q5 fans were awaiting?
It’s definitely a classic rock album – there’s some Uriah Heep, some AC/DC, some NWOBHM influences – it’s pretty easy to get the picture.
There are some ok song, but not enough to make it an essential purchase. They are all pretty simple bar-room boogie hard rockers, a couple of double time shufflers and a couple of slower moments too.

I’m not warming to this album though. The songs are very basic and very raw production doesn’t give the music a lift that might have helped. I’m not feeing the vocals and I’m not feeling the overall vibe either. To be honest, it’s not a band recognizable from the past. It’s a new take on an old name.

(Alan Niven interview recorded June 13th 2016.)

Quotes from the interview:

Comparing Axl Rose & Muhammad Ali (time 17.19): "I saw them both as anti-authoritarian. I saw them both as champions of individuality. Champions of the worth of every individual. In terms of fame, I think there was a similarity - they were both heavyweights."

Mötley Crüe (time 36.41): "What does Mötley Crüe stand for? Excess? Greed? What are they? Young republicans?"Ala

Axl (time 37.36): "When he wrote Civil War - I was thrilled. Absolutely thrilled. I thought this was a major step to him joining the pantheon of the greats who inspired me to be involved in this. Your Dylans. Your Lennons. Your Marleys and I thoroughly believed that my friend from Lafayette was going to join that pantheon."

In the show's second interview singer Jonathan K of Q5 discusses his band's new album New World Order, Floyd Rose, what went right and what went wrong for Q5 over the years, their classic Steel The Light album, being covered by Great White and a lot more.

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of the anticipated third album from Q5, entitled 'New World Order' on July 8th.

You can pre-order the album now on both Amazon.com: http://radi.al/NewWorldOrderAmazon  and iTunes: http://radi.al/NewWorldOrderiTunes

Q5 was formed in 1983, comprised of members of two popular Seattle bands: vocalist Jonathan K and guitarist (plus famous guitar tremolo inventor) Floyd Rose from The C.O.R.E. and Rick Pierce (guitar), Evan Sheeley (bass) and Gary Thompson (drums) from TKO. The band released its first album, "Steel The Light" (on Music for Nations) in 1984, receiving immediate worldwide critical acclaim, and landing them touring spots with Twisted Sister, Y&T and Lita Ford. The success of "Steel The Light" led them to eventually sign with Polygram/Squawk for their 1985 sophomore release, "When the Mirror Cracks". Due to personal differences, the original lineup dissolved shortly after this release.

In 2014, Q5 was asked to perform at Sweden Rock Festival, a performance that the band had agreed would be a "one off" show, but at the completion of the performance, it was obvious that this was not an ending, but merely a beginning. Upon returning to Seattle, The band secured drummer Jeffrey McCormack (former Heir Apparent, Fifth Angel) and guitarist Kendall Bechtel (former Fifth Angel) and began rehearsing formally as "Q5". The band's relaunch debuted at the ROCK You To HELL Festival in Athens, Greece followed by a headlining performance in Cyprus. The band then returned to Seattle to begin work on music for a new album. Kendall Bechtel, however, was unable to stay with the band due to personal reasons, so the band secured guitar virtuoso Dennis Turner to complete the lineup.

So, while the band's debut album, "Steel The Light " continues to grow in popularity all over the world, the fans are writing from all corners of the globe, eagerly inquiring about the next chapter in the Q5 story. That chapter begins NOW. With their new lineup solidified, and a new album slated for release, Q5 is poised to take its rightful place again in the hard rock/heavy metal hierarchy!

Frontiers Music Srl welcomes Q5 to the label!

Q5 was formed in 1983 by members of two popular Seattle bands: vocalist Jonathan K and guitarist (famous guitar tremolo inventor) Floyd Rose from The C.O.R.E. and Rick Pierce (guitar), Evan Sheeley (Bass) and Gary Thompson (drums) from TKO. Q5 released its first album, "STEEL THE LIGHT" in 1984, receiving immediate critical acclaim, and landing them tours with Twisted Sister, Y&T and Lita Ford. The success of "STEEL THE LIGHT" led them to eventually sign with Polygram/Squawk for their 1985 sophomore release "WHEN THE MIRROR CRACKS", but due to personal differences, the original lineup dissolved shortly after this release.

In 1991, Jonathan K and Rick Pierce started a new project called NIGHTSHADE with drummer Jeffrey McCormack and bassist Anthony Magnelli and released their first album, "DEAD OF NIGHT". This album was partially comprised of material that was to be the third Q5 release, and it received worldwide critical acclaim. In 2009, when Nightshade was slated to perform at the Headbangers Open Air Festival in Germany, with Evan Sheeley on bass, the promoters asked if they would perform a second set as Q5 and the band agreed to do it. The fans response was overwhelming to say the least!

In 2014, Q5 was asked to perform at Sweden Rock Festival, a performance that the band had agreed would be a "one off" show, but at the completion of the performance, it was obvious that this was not an ending, but merely a beginning. Upon returning to Seattle, the band secured drummer Jeffrey McCormack (former Heir Apparent, Fifth Angel) again, and guitar virtuoso Dennis Turner to complete the line-up.

"STEEL THE LIGHT" continues to be discovered and gain new fans all over the world. Critics are still touting the album as a "classic" and a "must have in any metalhead's collection". Bands such as Great White, Wolf, October 31 and many others have covered songs from the album, and fans are writing from all corners of the globe, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Q5 story...That chapter begins NOW!

'We are truly honored to be with Frontiers!' says drummer Jeff McCormack! With a super strong lineup, a new label and an album slated for release in early 2016, Q5 is poised to take its rightful place in the hard rock / heavy metal history books!
