Bryan Adams' classic Reckless album is finally getting the deluxe treatment it deserves. The detauls below. It seems one bonus track and a live cut have been omitted from the original track details announced, so keep watch for clarification on that.
The super deluxe set features six previously unreleased tracks (including the song Reckless) appended to the main album on disc one, while disc two features an April 1985 BBC In Concert live recording from Hammersmith Odeon. A DVD with promo videos is included, with the icing on this super deluxe cake being the inclusion of a pure audio blu-ray audio disc which features a hi-res version of the new remastered Reckless and 5.1 mix of the entire album! A hardcover book features never-before-seen historical photos from the studio, and a conversation piece between Bryan and his co-writer Jim Vallance, a technical interview with mastering engineer Bob Ludwig and more.
The two-CD deluxe limits itself to discs one and two from the super deluxe, and if you are only interested in hi-res and 5.1 the blu-ray audio is also available separately.
A two-LP vinyl edition will include the bonus tracks and “live tracks” - suggesting most (0r all) of the Hammersmith tracks will be on the record.
Reckless will be reissued on 3 November 2014.
UPDATED: PRESS RELEASE -
(Toronto, ON ' 15 September 2014) ' Almost 30 years since the debut of one of the most iconic albums in music history, Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company is set to re-release Bryan Adams' game-changing record Reckless on 24 November 2014. The re-release features a lavish four-disc super-deluxe edition of Reckless housed in a DVD case-sized hardback book that will include the 2014 re-mastered audio and seven bonus tracks, the BBC in Concert Hammersmith Odeon live concert performance recorded in April of 1985, and a DVD of Reckless - The Movie, which was a first at the time, as it was an accompanying release alongside the Reckless album and was shot by the legendary Director, Steve Barron (Dire Straits, Aha, Michael Jackson). The movie features videos from Reckless interspersed with scenes linking the tracks. The fourth disc in the super-deluxe edition is a Blu-Ray Pure Audio' recording of the original album and a steereo mix re-mastered this year.
The packaging of Reckless includes never before seen historical photos from the studio, photos of Adams and writing partner Jim Vallance as well as a fascinating conversation between the two of them, remembering the writing and recording of the album cut by cut. There is an exclusive interview with Adams and a technical interview with legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig as well as lyrics, work sheets, paperwork, notes and much more, remarkably kept intact from 1984 - truly an amazing and comprehensive collection of music and memorabilia.
UMC originally released Reckless three decades ago on 05 November 1984 ' on Adams ' 25th birthday - the 10-track record, spawned six ground-breaking hit singles, "Run To You", "Somebody", "Heaven", "Summer of 69", "One Night Love Affair" and "It's Only Love" ' the duet with the iconic Tina Turner. Reckless is the album that catapulted Adams' career onto the international stage, becoming a multi-million selling disc in the U.K., Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.S., Germany and of course his home country of Canada. From the opening act to headliner, Top 20 to #1, the album was the tipping point in Adams' career.
The original 10-track recording of Reckless stretched on for months: sessions began in March 1984, but the album wasn't finished until September. "By the time I'd finished the album," noted Adams, "I was completely exhausted. I'd pushed everybody, including myself, very hard. It was almost like I didn't care about any other relationship anymore with anybody. I was just going to make the best record I possibly could."
History proves he did just that. "Reckless was just the right record at the right time," says Adams. "It was just unstoppable."
