Brian Bart’s resume now goes back 40 years. He has been a stalwart of the Minneapolis rock scene since the start of the 80s – as a guitarist, songwriter, producer, engineer just for starters.
In recent years Brian has been the owner, engineer and producer at Logic Studios & Logic Recordings. He has recorded over 300 albums, played multiple instruments on over 100 records, including ten of his own.
Best known as founding member of Dare Force, Brain’s solo debut ‘Future Vision’ came in 1987 and features a wild set of songs spanning hard rock, pomp, melodic anthems, fusion and some inspired instrumentals that show an artist in full command of his craft. The album features some fine displays of shredding and riffing, intelligent song arrangements and a guitar tone and sound that rivals the great Boston.
Unfortunately for fans of 80s melodic rock, the album remains largely a mystery – it was only ever released independently on cassette. Until now. Brian Bart has re-arranged the cassette running order to better suit the flow of a CD and the material has been remastered once again by JK Northrup.
‘Future Vision’ can now be heard in all its glory on a Limited Edition 500 Series CD release from MelodicRock Classics on August 25.
TheRighttoRock.com has issued their latest podcast interview (episode #57), featuring guitarist Duane Morano. The boys recently caught up with guitarist Duane Morano, to discuss his 80's hard rock tinged release Incognito. Duane gives us insight on how his debut record came together, as well as how he assembled an all star cast of musicians to give him a hand.
Duane was able to hook up with Terry Illous (XYZ), Jeff Northrup, Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) as well as Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper) to create a kick ass debut. Even though Duane has has been on the scene for awhile, he is sort of a late bloomer, that never had the opportunity to get his music to the masses, until now. Tune it to hear Duane's journey and much more.
To celebrate release day, the guys have delivered a brand new video. Please enjoy:

FICTION SYXX is the brain child of songwriter/vocalist/guitarist, Mark Allen Lanoue. But like all ideas, including musical ones, it is not just about the writing; it is about the delivery. So, after writing the first song called “Welcome to my Nightmare” for this new musical journey, Mark started talking with friend and multi-talented musician/songwriter/producer, JK Northrup (KING KOBRA, XYZ) about starting a project that would be framed around a core of members.
It is time at least for MelodicRock Records to announce the return of OUTLASTED with their second album 'Waiting For Daybreak', set for release worldwide July 26.
Preorders with bonus audio delivery available this week. The CD release will feature 2 extra tracks over the digital release.
“The new album ‘Waiting For Daybreak’ was recorded over a two year period starting right after the release of the debut. We had six songs written and demoed when ‘Into The Night’ was released. We had a clear vision of what we wanted the next album to sound like” says producer and guitarist Terje Fløyli.
The album is once again mixed by Ronny Wikmark at Touchdown Studio in Trondheim, Norway. The artwork is designed by Nello Dell’Omo at Art For Music in Naples, Italy and mastering is done by JK Northrup at Alien Productions Music Studio, California USA.
“The new album is a natural progression from the debut and showcases a more mature approach to the songwriting process. The first one was written over a ten year period and the lyrics were mostly about love and break ups. The songs on the new album is more uplifting and inspirational.” says keyboardist Odd-Børge.
On ‘Waiting For Daybreak’ Glenn Wikran also contributed to the songwriting. “I’m very pleased with the songs on the new album. The first one was written by Terje and Odd-Børge so I was very happy to take part in writing this one. I think we have all evolved and grown over the last few years, something you can hopefully hear in the music.” adds Glenn.
Outlasted had a lineup change in the fall of 2018. Andreas Jentoft replaced Rune Pedersen on drums and Lasse Ingebrigtsen replaced Aleksander Schjølberg on bass. Glenn Wikran (vocals), Odd-Børge Hansen (keys) and Terje Fløyli (guitars) remain from the original lineup.
One of the new breed of Scandinavian rock bands, Outlasted picks up the mantle of classic rock and wears it with distinction. A five-piece band based in Norway, Outlasted fuses the sound of the golden age of recording with the compelling songwriting of classic rock and brings both into the future with modern production techniques and stellar musicianship.
MelodicRock Records is pleased to announce the return of OUTLASTED with their second new 2019 single ‘After All These Years’.
The video for the song has been launched today.
The band’s spokesman Terje Floyli had this to say about the new song and video:
“The video for ‘After All These Years’ was shot at an old abandoned power station located near the band's hometown Tromsø in the northern part of Norway. It’s the second single and video from the upcoming album ‘Waiting For Daybreak’ soon to be released on MRR. It was once again directed, filmed and edited by the very talented Michael Ludvigsen, who also made the videos for ‘Chains Of Destiny’ and ’Someone Like You’.”
“We were very happy with the ’Someone Like You’ video that Michael did for us back in 2014 and we wanted to work with him again on the videos for the new album” says lead singer Glenn. "Michael wanted to do a green screen video for ‘Chains Of Destiny' and a location video for ‘After All These Years’. That suited us very well and we loved the idea of making two different kind of videos” adds guitarist Terje.
The new album is titled ‘Waiting For Daybreak’ and is once again produced by guitarist Terje Fløyli before being handed over to the master of mastering, JK Northrup. Full album details will be announced next week.
One of the new breed of Scandinavian rock bands, Outlasted picks up the mantle of classic rock and wears it with distinction. A five-piece band based in Norway, Outlasted’s harmonic and melodic lineup comprises Glenn Wikran on vocals, Terje Fløyli on guitars, and Odd-Børge Hansen at the piano and keyboards. On the rhythmic side of its tracks are Aleksander Schjølberg holding down the bass, and drummer Rune Erling Pedersen who provides the percussive pyrotechnics of this exciting new ensemble that features great hooks, catchy choruses, and full background harmonies provided by all band members.

“Feel good rock n’ roll - the music tells stories we can all relate to, but in a fun way” is how songwriter/guitarist Duane Morano describes his CD, Incognito. And on its first-ever release, ‘Incognito’ (whose pre sale begins on November 30th via Pledge Music (http://pmusic.co/lNL9xL), before its official release on February 8th, 2019), Duane has assembled a stellar supporting cast of names that are well-known to melodic rock fans worldwide - Tyketto’s Danny Vaughn, Extreme’s Pat Badger and Kevin Figueiredo, Firehouse’s Michael Foster and Bill Leverty, XYZ’s Terry Ilous, The Firm/Blue Murder’s Tony Franklin, and Alice Cooper’s Nita Strauss, among others.
As Duane explains, the CD ‘Incognito’ came together in a huge stroke of luck. “I had known Bill Leverty for a great many years so he was in from the beginning. Back in 2016, I was having dinner with Bill and was asked if I was ever going to unshelve a CD I started working on years ago. After some thought, I finished a few of the tracks in my studio and sent them to Bill to be mixed. As we listened to the mixes, it became clear to both of us I needed to get rid of the programmed drums, find a bass player instead of a guitar player trying to play bass, and get someone that could sing what I was struggling to attempt. Changes needed to be made. That was when Bill suggested his drummer Michael Foster, so I gave him a shout.”
“The next step was finding the right vocalists to fit the handful of songs that were ready. I had my MP3 player on shuffle and Great White's ‘Hard to Say Goodbye’ came on and thought, ‘Terry's voice would be a great fit for a song,’ so I reached out to him and he asked to hear it. I sent him an MP3 with Michael and Tony playing on it. Terry was a bit surprised that as a guitar player I hired a bass player and didn't do it myself which is typical in self-funded, small budget projects. After explaining, Terry saw I was willing to do what's best for the music and liked the song so he agreed to sing a song or two. As the project progressed and we got to know each other, we started trading ideas back and forth, writing and arraigning together, and ultimately ended up with 5 songs for consideration.”
“Pat coming on board was really a happy accident. For 20 years or so I've collected music memorabilia as hobby. Pat had a Pledge campaign going on at the time and I pledged for the Patocam. He sent me an email saying something like, ‘Dude you got the Patocam,’ so I replied with some smart-aleck funny comment. He laughed and we emailed back and forth for a few hours and went our separate ways. About a week went by and much to my surprise, I got a random email from him asking how I was doing.”
As the project’s leader explains, the album is loaded with rockin’ highlights. “Nita Strauss solo on ‘Manhattan’ was a pick up your jaw off the floor moment. Bryan Cole’s vocals on ‘Don’t Believe You’ grabs elements of rock and blues with a touch of soul, and delivers one of the best performances I’ve ever heard him do. The way Michael Foster and Pat Badger really cement and play with the groove on ‘Kid Gloves’ is really cool.”
And the guests sound equally enthusiastic about the disc. Terry Ilous - “If you want to listen to good rock and roll, good music, pledge for this CD. Duane is a wonderful guitar player and I’m looking forward to singing more songs for him.” Nita Strauss - “‘Manhattan’ is a GREAT song. Thank you for having me on it.” Bill Leverty - "Duane has an amazing CD, filled with tasty music and killer guitar work."
Duane is also confident that his brand of rock fits in well with the current musical climate. “With the interest people have in bands of my youth, I think Incognito gives people the opportunity to hear elements of what was great about that era of music - but in a fresh way. Incognito pays tribute to that time period, but leaves the listener feeling satisfied like you’ve got something new.
And if all goes according to plan, the CD will not merely be a studio project. “Shows could happen if we can get schedules coordinated. That's always the hardest part when trying to get people from several different active bands together in the same place at the same time. There is talk of a live version, and something Bryan, Danny, Terry, and I think could be a lot of fun.”
Lastly, what are Duane’s future plans? “Finish the CD and then spend some much-needed time with my wife and kids - while putting a live band together, for special events.”

MRR’s Andrew McNeice: “I’m immensely proud and excited to finally be releasing this killer record from JK and David. I’ve worked with JK since the very first MR.com compilation over 15 years back and he’s been there for me as a mastering engineer every time since. His work with me remastering some important archive releases in the last couple of years has only further emboldened my respect for him as a first rate professional and someone who can bring out the very best results in any situation. On top of that, he is a Grade A gentleman who I value as a friend and college.
Everyone I have recommended Jeff to as an engineer or producer has ended up using him and continuing that relationship. But I’ve long felt that his name is undervalued as a writer and guitarist and I think this record is his finest achievement to date and a truly stunning release – in all facets – the guitar playing, the writing and production and David Cagle is one hell of a vocalist who I think we need to work with again ASAP!”
Jeff Northrup: “David Cagle and I had worked together in the past and started this album back in 2014. Unfortunately, it was shelved due to 'circumstances'. We knew we had something special even then, and the time was right to pull out this great collection of songs, dust it off and polish it up. The result is 12 of the best songs put together on any album I've been a part of!
Fast forward to 2017… After rewriting some of the lyrics, some arrangement changes, re-recording guitars and vocals, then bringing in the powerful rhythm section of Larry Hart - bass (Montrose, Gypsy Soul, King Kobra) and Steve Brown - drums (Montrose, Oleander-and Mick Brown's younger brother), the album has truly come to life!
Larry and Steve have been playing live together for a couple years and are TIGHT. I've played on a few albums with Larry including King Kobra, Shortino-Northrup and Gypsy Soul, which began in 1987.
When you hear the opening track 'The Night Is Mine', you'll know right away that you are going to Get Rocked HARD!!! David's modern approach on vocals is a breath of fresh air and I pull no punches on guitar!! With some heavy, powerful rock songs, to more main stream rockers and a couple killer ballads, it's all here!!!
Although a predominately guitar driven album, Eric Ragno does a masterful job playing keyboards on 6 songs.
The title track, 'That's Gonna Leave A Mark' was written by myself several years back, but sounds as fresh and powerful as if written today. Some of the lyrics are based on true life experiences about love, hate and a relationship gone bad, which is reflected in the artwork that was done by the great Nello Dell'Omo. 'The Siren' cuts out your heart and leaves you still alive, clutching your chest. Been there, done that!!! I truly am excited for everyone to here this album!! Cheers!" ~ JK Northrup

JK Northrup's professional career began in 1982 when bassist-songwriter Bruce Turgon (Lou Gramm, Foreigner) heard his demo tape and asked if he would like to record with him in Los Angeles. That offer was accepted and the next thing that happened was they were in the studio at Pasha Records being produced by the legendary Billy Thorpe (Children Of The Sun). In the next room, Quiet Riot was mixing their debut album 'Metal Health'. Billy asked JK, Bruce and Frankie Banali to tour for his new release and that's how it all began!
Since then, JK has recorded with, toured with and produced some of the biggest names in music and that list continues to grow today. Not only known as an elite guitarist, songwriter and producer, but also as a recording engineer and mastering specialist. In 2017 alone, JK produced, mixed and/or mastered some of the top-rated rock albums for a who's who of recording artists.
Having written songs that have been recorded by artists such as Foreigner, King Kobra, Great White, XYZ and including television and movies, the list continues to grow.
JK has appeared on over 30 albums over the years as a songwriter, guitarist and producer, and has mixed and mastered many others.
Now in 2018 comes a new album called JK Northrup & David Cagle, 'That's Gonna Leave A Mark'. This album showcases all of JK Northrup's skills as a songwriter, guitarist, producer, recording and mastering engineer.
In JK's words, 'I'm just getting started! Enjoy the ride folks'.

The Mood Groove was formed by Ed Balldinger and JK Northrup as an outlet to create and record music that stretched their collective imaginations and to invite listeners to something a little different. Their goal was to be “Out of the box” and not be confined to any particular style or genre, yet to be a part of them all. As JK says, “It is musical ear candy for the brain, so the third eye can see again!”Ed Balldinger is an amazing, if not eclectic lyricist, or “Wordsmith” and published poet, as well as a talented guitarist with a wide variety of musical influences. JK brings his skills as a songwriter, producer, recording engineer and guitarist. Together they have combined their song-writing skills to create 10 songs in the vein of Rock, Funk, Psychedelic, Soul, Blues, Experimental, Gospel and most of all, Mood and Groove!
JK and Ed brought in the powerhouse rhythm section of Larry Hart on bass (Gypsy Soul, Montrose, King Kobra, Shortino-Northrup) and Glenn Hicks on drums and vocals (Gypsy Soul, Shortino-Northrup). With much of their performances being played powerfully off the cuff, it adds an element of “live” to the album! Glenn and Larry both played with JK in Gypsy Soul with Johnny Edwards on vocals from 1987-1989, and then again on several songs for the Shortino-Northrup “Back On Track” album in 1993.
Adding female backing vocals by Diana Short gives a Pink Floyd, Zappa sound to some songs, while having other singers on a few songs to add a variety of vocal textures and feel.
If you like bands such as Living Colour and Mother Finest then this is the album to add to your music collection!
