Tour News

Another 15 acts have been confirmed for this summer's Sweden Rock Festival: Scorpions, Kansas, Warlock, Wintersun, Wishbone Ash, The Dead Daisies, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Lucifer's Friend, Myrkur, Picture, Artch, Art Nation, Lost Society and Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies

Scorpions have taken their live show to another level with the inclusion of former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee in their line-up. This summer, the German hard rock legends are set to play their first show in Sweden with Gothenburg resident Mikkey behind the drum kit, and they will be bringing a spectacular new production and, of course, an amazing catalogue of songs to build a setlist from, such as "Rock you like a hurricane", "Blackout", "Big city nights", "Still loving you", "Dynamite", "The Zoo", "Still loving you", "Alien nation", "Send me an angel" and "Winds of change".

American prog rock icons Kansas have also been reignited lately. Their evergreens "Carry on wayward son" and "Dust in the wind" keep making appearances in movies and TV series, a new band line-up has the band sounding better than they have in many years and recently they released their first studio album since 2000. This summer, they fly to Europe for a single show at the Sweden Rock Festival.

2017 will also be the year when the undisputed queen of heavy metal, Doro Pesch, reunites with guitarist Tommy Bolan for four European shows under the name Warlock. One of these shows will be at the Sweden Rock Festival and the main focus of the concert will be on the bands fourth and most beloved album, "Triumph and agony" from 1987.

With this, the following 26 out of a total of 80 acts have been confirmed for Sweden Rock Festival 2017:

Aerosmith
Scorpions
In Flames
Running Wild
Kansas
Clutch
Venom
Warlock
Gotthard
Rhapsody
Black Star Riders
Candlemass
Wintersun
Y&T
Metal Church
Wishbone Ash
The Dead Daisies
Grave Digger
Primal Fear
Lucifer's Friend
Myrkur
Picture
Artch
Art Nation
Lost Society
Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies

The remaining 54 bands will be announced as they get confirmed this winter and spring.

In 1988, the Hanoverian pioneers were the first Western rock band to play five consecutive sold-out shows in then Soviet Leningrad. Returning the following year to play the Moscow Music Peace festival, Scorpions ultimately conquered Russia, inspiring frontman Klaus Meine to write the track that became a theme song to the Iron Curtain’s final fall: ‘Wind of Change’.
Travelling to Australia for the first time in the 50-year history of the band, Scorpions will play their debut Australian show at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Tuesday October 18.

SCORPIONS 'Return To Forever' Tour Edition CD+DVD

Artist:
Friday, March 11, 2016

The Scorpions are on the move!

After last year’s massive sold-out world tour, the band is back to rock stages even harder. On their gigantic 50th Anniversary World Tour that kicked off in 2015, the Scorpions are heading to Eastern Europe in February before returning to the US with an impressive five night run at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and playing even more shows in cities around the globe.

The Scorpions have been going full throttle for more than fifty years now, with their best-selling albums dominating the charts for over 500 weeks in Germany alone, and countless chart successes abroad, as well as thousands of unforgettable concerts in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Moscow, New York, Los Angeles, Paris or Berlin.

The Scorpions are and will be a band of superlatives. There is no other German band, which has gained as much international success and popularity over the course of so many decades. When the rock band from Hannover presented their 18th studio album “Return To Forever” for their 50th band anniversary one year ago, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs displayed that they are unabatedly in formidable shape. Simply world class.
The Tour Edition of “Return To Forever” comes opulently stacked with two brand-new live DVDs and a CD and is bound to make fans’ hearts leap for joy. Apart from the standard album’s twelve tracks, the CD contains all seven bonus tracks, which to date, have only been released on special editions of the album. The live DVDs are even more expansive, offering generous bonus material.

Included are two complete concerts from last year: The open air gig at the French Hellfest Festival, where they headlined in June, and their show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York featuring an impressive guest performance on “No One Like You” by twelve-year-old guitarist Brandon Niederauer.

The brand-new fifteen-minute video documentary “On The Road in America” by Dennis Dirksen gets to the heart of the matter that the Scorpions are able to consistently attract new generations of fans, who are delighted by their songs, sound and shows. Shot during the current world tour in California and Las Vegas, it gives a voice to fans spanning from teenagers to rock ’n’ roll veterans. The film impressively shows how popular the Scorpions are in the US, and it’s touching to see fans burst into tears while taking photos with the musicians. One highlight is the story of the Ukrainian woman, who at the time used “Wind Of Change” as an impetus to emigrate to the US, and has been a dedicated follower of the band ever since. After all, the Scorpions have not only left their mark on history but continue to influence their fans’ biographies.

In an extensive track-by-track interview, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs offer a sneak peak into the band’s musical universe with anecdotes about the origin and meaning of the songs on “Return To Forever”. The Scorpions manage to blend new songs like “Going Out With A Bang”, “We Built This House” and “Rock’n’Roll Band” seamlessly with their fulminant repertoire of rock classics from “Big City Nights” and “Blackout” to “Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”. This might also be the open secret allowing The Scorpions to continuously approach their live shows with so much freshness, passion and conviction. Fans can look forward to the upcoming gigs - especially because the Tour Edition of “Return To Forever” is a timely release as the perfect souvenir. And now: It’s showtime for the Scorpions!

The “Return To Forever” Tour Edition will be available from March 11, 2016 as a 1 CD + 2DVD Digipack and as download.

Celebrating 50 Years of Rocking Like A Hurricane with a New Album,
North American Tour, and Theatrical Release

(September 17, 2015) - International rrock superstars, Scorpions, continue to celebrate their 50th year in metal with a special one-night national screening event of their first theatrical release, the documentary film, “Forever And A Day,” Wednesday, October 14th.  Link to the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzTfIxUuTSA.  For more information on locations and tickets: http://www.The-Scorpions.com/ForeverAndADay/.

Presented by SpectiCast and Tempest Films, “Forever And A Day” captures the history of one of the most influential bands in music history – following them for 18 months with an insightful look into the dynamic that has kept them at the top of the metal community.  Filmmaker Katja von Garnier accompanied the Scorpions on their ‘Final Sting’ dates - originally the band’s farewell tour around the globe, from Bangkok via Los Angeles to Moscow, the resulting documentary “Forever and a Day” is a moving portrait of their unique history, packed with candid moments and Scorpions’ memories, culminating with the decision to scrap their retirement plans. Klaus Meine adds, “I think it'll be a really special film for our fans."

The title, “Forever And A Day,” outlines the philosophy Scorpions have internalized since their early days.  In the Eighties of the past century, they wrapped it up in the slogan “Don‘t Stop At The Top” (allegorical: Never rest on your laurels). They simply are travelers, who always seek new challenges, overcoming all obstacles along the way.

Scorpions continue their global assault in support of their 19th studio album, Return to Forever (Sony Music/Legacy Recordings), just released September 11, with North American dates (see below).  For additional info please visit www.The-Scorpions.com.

Founded in Hannover, West Germany in 1965, Scorpions were part of the first wave of metal in the 1970’s with their debut album, Lonesome Crow, released in 1972.  The band rose to arena status with seminal releases Lovedrive, Virgin Killer and Animal Magnetism.  In the 80s, Scorpions amassed a string of Billboard chart toppers from Love at Fiirst Sting and Blackout, including multiple Top 10 singles "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "No One Like You," as well a string of successful singles such as "Send Me an Angel," "Still Loving You" and "Wind of Change." The band was also ranked #46 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and their hit "Rock You Like a Hurricane" also landed as #18 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.  Celebrated across the globe, the iconic rock act have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, and have received multiple honors including World Music Award winners, a postage stamp in Brazil, their Star on Hollywood Rock Walk, Echo honors, most recently they were honored with the Lower Saxon State Award.

Scorpions Return to Forever 50th Anniversary Tour, featuring longtime members Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, alongside James Kottak (drums) and Paweł Mąciwoda (bass), kicked off in May 2015 with dates on four continents. For these milestone shows Scorpions have built a career-spanning setlist of their hits, anthems, ballads and vintage classics.  In September 2015, Scorpions released their 19th studio album, Return To Forever, and embarked on the first leg of their North American tour featuring special guests Queensryche.

Germany’s rock legends the Scorpions return with their final studio album and final tour. Or not…maybe, who knows. Either way, the guys have come out firing with a big guitar fueled, anthemic rock record that combines song ideas from the early and mid-80s and from today.
So it sounds like an old-school Scorps record, but with a contemporary production.
There’s a lot to like here as long as you can get past the cringe worthy and clichéd lyrics and the band should absolutely be cited for the overuse of the term ‘rock and roll’ – Rock My Car, Rock N Roll Band, Hard Rockin’ The Place, Rollin’ Home.
We get it guys – you ROCK!

On a serious note, this is a fun album as long as you check your brain in when you hit play.
The 80s hard rock of Going Out With A Bang sums things up fairly well; and We Built This House is a great melodic rocker with a big chorus.
Rock My Car sounds like it might be called Rock My (censored) if you don’t listen close enough. It’s a bit daft.

House Of Cards is a solid new Winds Of Change style ballad; Rock N Roll Band has a fast beat and decent riff; Catch Your Play is a nice pompous AOR track; The Scratch has quite a groove; and Gypsy Life is a sentimental anthem before a whole range of bonus tracks (depending on format) kick in.

Of the bonus stuff, only the upbeat Dancing With The Moonlight has any real lasting power. The chance of having up to 5 bonus tracks moves this album from consistent to too long and containing several fillers.

Well produced by Mikael Nord Andersson and Martin Hansen and filled with the best anthemic songs the Scorps have always been known for. Nothing new, but nothing bad (apart from the lyrics) either. Just good old’ rockin’ rocking rock rock’n’roll.

In episode 123 of One On One With Mitch Lafon, Mitch is joined by RUDOLF SCHENKER of the SCORPIONS.

Rudolf discusses the band's latest album RETURN TO FOREVER, their 50th anniversary tour, the Scorpions rockumentary FOREVER AND A DAY, Uli Jon Roth, the Tokyo Tapes and Taken By Force albums, his brother Michael, thoughts of leaving the band in the last 50 years, drummer James Kottak, and much more.

Quotes from the interview: "This band is not a band made by a manager. There was a new generation coming from Germany - not with tanks and making war, but with guitars and playing music. Bringing Music, Love & Peace. [the Scorpions] are Love, Peace & Rock N' Roll - Love stands for Still Lovin' You, Peace for Winds Of Change, and Rock N' Roll for Rock You Like A Hurricane."

On his brother Michael: "My brother was perfect for the Scorpions, but two Schenkers in one band are too much."

This episode is co-hosted by BRITNY FOX & DORO drummer, Johnny Dee. Johnny also gives an updateon the Britny Fox reunion and new album.

Maximum Metal Interview ULI JON ROTH

Artist:
Release Year:

Maximum Metal have just posted a new interview with guitar great ULI JON ROTH

Direct Interview link: http://www.maximummetal.com/interviews/intresults.asp?ID=ulijroth&idBand...

If you know the history of metal guitar, you don't have to be told who Uli Jon Roth is. First coming to the world's attention as a member of Germany's Scorpions in the 1970's, he was among the first guitar players to incorporate the influence of Classical music into a heavy rock context. In the 80's, he began taking this fusion further, first with the band Electric Sun (which also bore a distinct Jimi Hendrix influence he had begun to show in the Scorpions), and then with other projects that included several orchestral works. After increasingly leaving the rock world behind for a time, Roth has seemed to come to terms with his proto-metal past. It began with a handful of onstage appearances with the Scorpions, and has now culminated in Scorpions Revisited, a studio album featuring inspired new interpretations of songs he originally recorded with the band in the 70's (plus a tour featuring a set list that draws heavily from that era).

Roth recently spoke to Maximum Metal's Vinaya Saksena about his past, present and future, plus his thoughts on technology, society and the future of music in general. What follows is a slightly edited version of that interview here:

Roth has a new album of Scorpions material "Scorpions Revisited," out now. His thoughts on what he might do next:

Roth: I've written a new album a year ago, but I've never gotten around to start recording it, and I'm kind of itching to start the recording process. In some ways, it's a continuation of "Under A Dark Sky," but it's more rock-orientated, slightly simpler, but it's strongly melodic and I like the lyrics as well. So I'm looking forward to recording that one.

Roth expresses concern about the often superficial nature of popular music and culture in general:

As far as the music itself, I'm not really enamored with the whole instant gratification-like download mentality. You know, the iTunes thing means that it's just like McDonald's. You can get any piece of music instantly, and they're disconnected. My music for instance, I always tried to write like an album of pieces that are connected. And then of course you can listen to them on their own, but I feel it's not quite the same. I tend to think in broader artistic frameworks. And I'm not the only artist, you know. Kate Bush thinks like that, and so do several others. That's one thing.

I feel that the young generation, because everything is downloaded in seconds, there is no more physical aspect to it, and they don't seem to bond with the artists. But the artist needs a bond with the audience, a deeper understanding, which goes both ways, you know? Both sides are missing out if that's not happening, because the music benefits from that, the quality of the music benefits from that kind of bonding, which is a mutual understanding and a mutual kind of respect for one another- the audience for the artist and the artist for the audience. That reflects in the music and also the quality of the music, I think. So that's a little deplorable.

So it's a sign of our times. That's why I call it the McDonald's society. It's all mental fast food. Fast food of the mind is the name of the game. That's what rules the planet. You know, it's fast information, shallow information, cheap information. Anything instant, but very little of that goes down way deep. That's just the time we live in, and it takes some period of transformation inside of us to come to grips with this kind of speed, you know?

Everything is much faster now than it used to be. The train of mankind is running at a different frequency now, and that frequency is not necessarily very much in tune with what would be healthy for the human mind. There's a certain kind of spectrum of plus and minus of a healthy speed which is conducive to real progress of the human mind and spirit. But if you go beyond that, if the speed is too high, it's like you could easily have the whole train derailed, you know? And then the learning is not facilitated by that, because the speed is just too quick for that which we are naturally equipped with.

Maybe the next generation will adapt to that kind of speed, but I know very few people who have so far. Most people are just kind of coasting along , but maybe they don't even really notice, but when you really analyze what's going on, I don't really know anybody who's really on top of it now, even if they appear to be on top of it. A lot of precious things fall by the wayside. And I don't mean that financially. I mean spiritually precious, mentally precious, you know? A lot of good things fall by the wayside. They get crushed by this incredibly fast train.
