WHITESNAKE RETURN WITH THE PURPLE ALBUM

First New Studio Album In Four Years Set For Release in May Via Frontiers Music SRL.

Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. The Purple Album will be released in Europe on May 15th and in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. The Purple Album is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale's time as the lead singer for Deep Purple's Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order in various configurations on Amazon: a standard edition (http://geni.us/WSPurpleREGamz), a deluxe edition (http://geni.us/WSPurpleDLXamz) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album and in a double LP vinyl format. Plans are also underway for a special limited box set edition with memorabilia and merchandise. All details will be announced soon.

'It's a tribute. A homage. It's a huge thank you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago,' states Coverdale. Newly annointed Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra (TSO, Night Ranger, Rock Of Ages) is also working on a side project that he plans to complete a full length album with for 2015 release.

The lineup is:

Russell Allen - vocals
Joel Hoekstra - guitar
Vinny Appice - drums
Tony Franklin - bass
Derek Sherinian - keyboards
Jeff Scott Soto - background vocals

So far there are 7 songs are fully tracked, which are being mixed and a negotiation with a prominent label is underway to make it a full length release, to be released by the 2nd quarter or 2015.

Night Ranger continue looking for a permanent replacement for departed guitarist Joel Hoekstra, who has joined Whitesnake.

Jack Blades sent this message out:

"We wanted to give a shout out to Keri Kelli (Alice Cooper Band), who has been playing with us until we make an official lineup announcement. Keri has been rockin' the past few shows, like only he could! He's a bro and rock n' roll family to us. Getting hit by lots of great guitar players for the spot. No one is officially locked in as of yet. We have received so many amazing messages from our fans and thank you for supporting Night Ranger!"

NIGHT RANGER guitarist Joel Hoekstra is leaving the band to join WHITESNAKE.

Night Ranger will be playing one of their last shows with Joel tonight as they take the stage in Boston with 38 Special.

The band released this brief statement:

“Joel Hoekstra has just announced he will be departing the band to pursue other creative opportunities. We couldn't be happier for Joel. The last 8+ years have been a blast and we wish him nothing but the best.
Night Ranger will be announcing Joel's replacement shortly. We are looking forward to the next chapter of Night Ranger, and traveling to Japan, Hawaii and venues across the United States, Europe and the UK in support of our new album HIGH ROAD.”

David Coverdale likewise released a statement:

"Ladies & Gentlemen...Boys & Girls...Your Attention, Please...:)

One of the first, if not the first, guitarists to put his name forward after hearing that Doug Aldrich had left the band, was an exceptionally talented musician whom we had met briefly last year when his band opened for Whitesnake in Arizona.

Everyone was very impressed by him, not only for his ability to play amazing guitar, but, also, his very agreeable personality & he was definitely foremost in our minds when we began to search for Doug’s replacement in Whitesnake.

We jammed together & were mutually impressed enough to ask him to join Whitesnake on the spot. This was May 30th. 2014.

Joel is currently fulfilling his remaining tour dates with Night Ranger.

We sincerely thank you all for your patience & understanding...& so, without further ado, we ask you to welcome, as we have done, our exceptionally gifted new Snake Brother...

So Night Ranger has started talks with potential candidates to replace Joel. A decision is expected to be made in the next couple of weeks.

Whitesnake are in the process of writing and recording a new studio album for release in 2015 - the band will undertake a worldtour throughout 2015.

Tony Franklin: "I'm digging the completed VHF CD (Todd Vinny Vinciguerra, Joel Hoekstra, Tony Franklin The Fretless Monster)... Wow, actually! And it's crazy how this thing came together. Vinny approached me with the idea. He wanted to lay down some song-oriented drum grooves and then have me play bass over them... it was wide open, whatever I wanted. So I did it, and had a blast. I put some time into it to come up with something creative, heavy, a little edgy and different, while still maintaining a 'song-type' format. Vinny's parts were great to play over - groove wise and idea wise. I was definitely inspired. Next we handed the tracks over to Joel Hoekstra who was totally on board and in tune with the concept. He took it to a whole other level. When I listen to the tunes, they sound like we sat in the same room together, created the riffs, grooves and changes as a band, which couldn't be further away from the truth! Haha.
