DEEP PURPLE Singer IAN GILLAN To Release Powerful Live Album On Audio & Video

“CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION” OUT ON JULY 26th, 2019 ON earMUSIC.

Vocalist Ian Gillan, together with Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne and a few others, is considered one of the legendary voices that shaped hard rock. Despite his commitment to Deep Purple, the singer has built an impressive solo career. “Contractual Obligation” is a collection of performances during a recent tour through Eastern Europe, which contains three shows which will be released on different formats via earMUSIC on July 26, 2019:

Contractual Obligation #1: Live In Moscow (On Blu-ray)
Contractual Obligation #2: Live In Warsaw (On 2CD & digital)
Contractual Obligation #3: Live In St. Petersburg (On 3LP)

Still fresh from the success of the studio album “NOW What?!”, and just a few months before the release of the latest and equally successful album “inFinite”, Ian Gillan accepted the offer to tour for a month in Eastern Europe with a full rock show, accompanied every night by a different local orchestra.
Gillan decided to recruit the Don Airey Band, which features the guitar talent of Simon McBride.
All shows were truly unique, with Airey and McBride delivering perfect performances night after night. Deep Purple material (including rarities like “Razzle Dazzle” or “Anya”) went hand in hand with Gillan solo songs and surprises for those into the deepest catalogue.

The title is a humorous reference to Ian Gillan’s notorious reticence to pay any attention to his own or Deep Purple live releases (as he explains in the album liner notes). This live album and video might well be one of the nicest chapters in Gillan’s solo production ever and a reminder about how great his solo music and concerts have been over the years.

Curiosity: The last Deep Purple album was named “Infinity” (which later turned into: “inFinite”) during the afternoon preceding the Warsaw show that ended up being immortalized for its CD release.

“Contractual Obligation” will be available on Blu-Ray (Contractual Obligation #1: Live In Moscow), 2CD & digital (Contractual Obligation #2: Live In Warsaw) and as a 3LP+Download (Contractual Obligation #3: Live In St. Petersburg) on July 26, 2019 on earMUSIC.

Stay Tuned - "Fading Away" (Official Song Stream)

STAY TUNED TO RELEASE CHARITY ALBUM IN SUPPORT OF THE LINDA MCCARTNEY FUNDRAISING CENTRE. OUT ON NOVEMBER 30th ON earMUSIC.

FEATURING GUEST APPEARANCES BY DEEP PURPLE, MARK KING, STEVE LUKATHER, SUZI QUATRO, STEVE HACKETT, JEFF SCOTT SOTO & MANY MORE

“Stay Tuned” is the passion project of Austrian multi-instrumentalist Bernhard Welz. Not unlike other musicians, Welz often gathers his musical friends around to play and sing along to the songs he wrote, produced and arranged.
The difference between him and others is however, that his friends include some of the greatest rock’n’roll legends of our time. Among many fantastic others, these include Deep Purple’s Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Ian Gillan, Don Airey, Roger Glover and Steve Morse, Mark King of Level 42, Steve Lukather (Toto), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Suzi Quatro, Dan McCafferty (Nazareth), Jeff Scott Soto, Tony Martin (Black Sabbath), Rainbow’s Bob Daisley, Steve Lee and Marc Lynn of Gotthard.

This star-studded listening experience was brought to life to celebrate and commemorate friends, respect and – above all – the love for music. Defined by an abundance of talent on all instruments, “Stay Tuned” transports the listener to a time when classic rock was everything - and features solos and riffs from some of the most revered posterchildren, who were there to tell the tale. The individual talent and experience of each of these thoroughbred artists, when accumulated, created a sophisticated interplay which is not only fun for the artists themselves but to listen to for all rock fans. It is a true celebration of rock’n’roll!

“Stay Tuned” is going to be released as CD and Digital on November 30th, 2018 on earMUSIC. All proceeds go to the Linda McCartney Fundraising Centre – a charity very dear to the founder of “Stay Tuned”.

GLENN HUGHES Talks Millennials & California Breed

Artist:
Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Categories:
Podcasts & Radio
LEGENDARY singer/bassist Glenn Hughes says working with guitarist Andrew Watt showed him “millennials want all the power and all the money of people who’ve already got it without working for it”.
California Breed, a project in which now-65-year-old Hughes worked with 27-year-old Watt along with drummer Jason Bonham, broke up after one album in 2015.
“It was a very stressful band for me to be in,” Hughes told the White Line Fever podcast (please use this link https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/white-line-fever/id494213902?mt=2). “I was, you know, bamboozled into forming this band with a young man, Andrew Watt - a very talented young man - but it was the wrong move for me.
“The guy is a millennial. The guy is 25 years old and it was difficult to play with somebody with a different head space to me and Jason not wanting to tour was a difficult thing.
“Looking back at California Breed, I should never have toured behind that. I should have just released the album and moved back onto my solo work.
“A great record by the way but I don’t have very fond memories of that period. I’d was just recovering from open heart surgery, it was a difficult period for me but I look back on it and I learned so many different things.”
Asked for this thoughts on millennials, the former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath man answered: “The way I see it is this, and this is a generalisation: millennials want all the power and all the money of people who’ve already got it without working for it. I’m sorry, that’s the way I see it.
“People of my age group have worked their asses off to get this and a lot of youngsters - some youngsters don’t feel that way - they want it all and they want it now. They want what you got and they’re not willing to work their asses off for three of four decades to get it.
“And it just doesn’t work that way.”
When asked if he was linking these thoughts to Watt specifically, Hughes said:  “He comes from a group of people from that generation. You’re born in the early nineties and you have a different angle and a different viewpoint of the world. You have the whole internet thing. You grew up with the internet in front of your fingers. It’s a different demographic. It was difficult for me to work with people who had a different angle on life.
“I’m old school. I’ve had a heart attack. I’ve been shot at, pistol-whipped, run over in a car. I’ve been, you know, stabbed and all of a sudden I’m working with people who have no idea what I’ve been through and they just want success. And success, you just don’t get it overnight.”
Hughes returned to another high profile collaboration, Black Country Communion, which currently has a album in circulation entitled BCCIV. Hughes is also touring a show of Deep Purple classics with his solo band.

DON AIREY New Album 'One Of A Kind' Out May 25

DON AIREY TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM ONE OF A KIND ON MAY 25 ON earMUSIC

In these days where everybody seems to want to show off at every given occasion, Don Airey is without a doubt One of a Kind.

It is hard to find a name amongst all those that over the last 30 years have left their mark in the history of rock that has not utilised Don's keyboard skills at some point. Amongst them Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, Brian May, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath and, obviously, Deep Purple, the band of which Don Airey has been a full time member for over 15 years.

But Don Airey has never been a session player. Bands and artists work with him for his unique musical vision, for the twist he gives to songs. It is with the same passion, the same energy, the same talent that Don Airey approaches his very own songwriting.

One of a Kind is a true classic hard rock gem with melodies, great riffs and solos and a unique band unity. To top it all, his new solo album has been written and recorded using the spirit of a band featuring the following talented musicians: Carl Sentance (from the current lineup of British legends Nazareth) is a singer that all fans of metal voices like those of Rob Halford and Graham Bonnet will love; Bassist Laurence Cottle, who has played with everyone from Black Sabbath, to Gary Moore, to Chick Corea, forges a great rhythm section with the thunderous talent of Jon Finnigan, apparently as loud on stage as he is at the after show parties. Last but definitely not least, there is the incredible talent of Simon McBride, who has no fear of being compared to the many incredible guitar players Don has worked with before.

One of a Kind is one song after the other for the delight of every hard rock fan, who would be making a big mistake were they to overlook this album.

It will be released on May 25, 2018 on earMUSIC as 2CD including a bonus live CD as well as via vinyl and digitally.

It is not difficult to see Don Airey playing one day with Deep Purple in front of 15,000 people, and the next day, playing the organ in the church of his beloved local village with the same concentration and respect for the music and the audience.

It is with the same spirit that Don shows no discernible effort moving from the glories of the last two Deep Purple albums (NOW What?! and inFinite both having benefitted from his ever present talent) to playing in clubs with his own band. And always with a big smile on his face as soon as the guitar roars in, waiting to reply with his Hammond.

GLENN HUGHES Performs Classic Deep Purple Live in Australia

For The First Time In 40 Years…Performing A Full Concert Of Classic Deep Purple Live!

Glenn Hughes, the Voice Of Rock, played his last concert with Deep Purple on March 15, 1976, at Liverpool's Empire Theatre.
On that night, the UK bassist and vocalist walked away from one of history's truly game-changing rock phenomena and never looked back — until now.

This September, Australia will witness one of the finest hard rock singer/musicians of his generation fronting a mighty handpicked band live in concert,
as he revisits some of Deep Purple's all-time greatest songs for the first time in more than 40 years, with epic stadium rock production.

"Most Purple fans rank Burn and Stormbringer among the greatest albums the band ever made, in any incarnation," Glenn says.
"Over that Mk III period, we were also performing Mk II classics like Smoke On The Water and Highway Star every night on massive world tours.

'My lasting memories with Deep Purple in Australia, was of course the Sunbury Music Festival in '75. After so much sunshine, came the rain – a little prophetic with us performing Stormbringer.
My God, the mud! What mayhem, but the crowds seemed to have a great time, we sure did.'

'I'm incredibly excited to get out there and play tracks like BurnMistreatedStormbringer and Getting Tighter, as well as some of those older songs that helped define the genre.
With this band, I can assure you of a concert that'll blow your mind."

Glenn was inducted into the Rock'N Roll Hall of Fame last year along with his other Deep Purple bandmates.

With one of the heaviest repertoires known to rock, and sound and lighting production values befitting the legend,
Glenn Hughes' Classic Deep Purple shows are destined to write a new page in rock history – GET READY!

THE BAND
JEFF KOLLMAN - Guitar
The hallowed name of guitar god Jeff Kollman has graced too many greatest player polls to count these last 30 years.
The Ohio punk turned jazz-prog virtuoso has run rings around the world since his '90s metal band Edwin Dare gave way to prog heroes Cosmosquad and a gun-slinging resume that spans
Sebastian Bach to Alan Parsons; Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatballs to UFO spin-off Mogg/Way. A classic guitarist's guitarists, Jeff takes high praise from the likes of Steve Lukather and John Payne in his estimable stride.
On stage and record, he's been a recurring foil for Glenn Hughes since the Songs In the Key of Rock LP of 2003.

LACHY DOLEY - Keys
Some call him the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond organ. Glenn Hughes calls him "the greatest living keyboard player in the world.'
Australian soul monster Lachy Doley is a killer showman too, pumping and pounding the most astonishing sounds from the classic B3 Hammond and his uber-rare Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet.
Lachy's version of Bill Withers' Use Me has clocked millions of YouTube hits and his latest album, Lovelight, has torched blues charts from Australia to the UK. Sideman to Powderfinger, Steve Vai, Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa, the world-touring keys prodigy cemented his place in Glenn's band during sessions in Copenhagen for the Resonate LP.

PONTUS ENGBORG - Drums
Hard-hitting funk-rock drummer Pontus Engborg barrelled out of Sweden to hit the LA session scene barely out of his teens in 2000.
A fast and furious apprenticeship from the Viper Room to the Whiskey and the Knitting Factory would lead to stints with Joe Lynn Turner, Graham Bonnet, Toto's Bobby Kimball and Journey's Steve Augeri.
Back in Sweden, he's been the man behind the supremely versatile Confusion since 2007. It was there that he came to the attention of Glenn Hughes in 2010, and made his debut behind the Voice of Rock in Serbia that July, sans rehearsal or soundcheck, in front of 21,000 people. Seven years later, it's fair to say he passed the audition.

DEEP PURPLE’s Ian Gillan, Roger Glover Revisit Machine Head

Quiet Resort Town Gives Birth To Hard Rock Masterpiece:

Dallas, TX - April 19, 2017. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands marks the anniversary of one of the cornerstones of hard rock, Deep Purple Machine Head.
Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple are credited by many as the third jewel in the British hard rock crown. At the suggestion of their accountant, Deep Purple would look to save some money by recording their 1972 album Machine Head  outside of the UK tax jurisdiction and in the quiet resort town of Montreux, Switzerland.

The events that transpired before and during the recording of Machine Head are legendary, immortalized in the band’s iconic song “Smoke On The Water” which details the massive fire that destroyed the venue where Deep Purple were set to record.  Singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover share with IN THE STUDIO host Redbeard the story that has become Rock and Roll folklore, resulting in Deep Purple leaving Switzerland with a career-defining album.

“We have always had a kind of aversion to recording studios, for various reasons. We are not very good studio workers. We We are quite naive about studio technique and technology. We concentrated very much on the music.”  -  Ian Gillan

“It (Montreux) was a very small sleepy town in the early Seventies. It was the place you retired to. And we’re lookioking for somewhere we can make a lot of noise in the middle of the night. That’s a pretty tall order.”  - Roger Glover

DEEP PURPLE Machine Head @ 45/ InTheStudio interview program is available now to STREAM at: “http://www.inthestudio.net/online-on-demand/deep-purple-machine-head-45th-anniversary-ian-gillan-roger-glover/

In-depth interviews with Deep Purple, Thunder and a glorious cover feature with Michael Schenker while also catching up with one of his amazing vocalists, Robin McAuley. Throw in loads more great chats with the likes of Night Ranger, Gotthard, Tokyo Motor Fist, House of Lords, Steve Hacket, Ayreon, Art of Anarchy, Eclipse, Unruly Child, Jim Jidhead, Axxis, Bloodbound, Quiet Riot, Firewind, Battle Beast and so many, many more, including new kids on the block, One Desire and Stefanie.

Complementing our usual features, we welcome two new articles this issue, the first of which will be a long-running serial. Dave Reynolds is a name that will be known to many of you, first coming to prominence in KERRANG! back in the 80s when it was every rocker’s bible. Dave now takes a look at his favourite 10 year span across the history of Rock music, 1973–1983, looking at the highlights as well as those releases that flew under the radar. Skip to page 14 to delve back into 1973!

Andrew McNeice has been the flag-bearer for AOR and Melodic Rock for the past 20 years, running his www.melodicrock.com website with intense passion and a clear love for the genre. I asked him to discuss what he considered the ten most under-appreciated AOR classics of all time, and the results can be found on page 122.

With our usual features, Dave Reynolds talks to 707 and Face Dancer in ‘Bands That Time Forgot’, while in Rob Evans’ ‘Sister Of Rock Column’ he looks at Leigh Matty, Sue Willits, Jackie Bodimead and Amanda Blue.
